I can't use any material with ultimaker 2 on Cura. Even when it says compatible with it on the marketplace.

Tried testing when adding a newer printer. the materials show up. But nothing with Ultimaker 2.

Should i just go to an older software ?

I am signed in and all.

Can't even create custom materials. Or import.

Which material are you printing with?

It's a lot of work to create and test a profile.  Each printer needs a different profile.  Each nozzle size needs a different profile.  So even if you have one filament (say Ninjaflex), creating it for just the UM2+ has potential 4 nozzle sizes times 2 or 3 types of profile (say fine, engineering, draft) is 5 to 12 profiles right there.  All of which need to be tested.

Then there is the UM3, the S3, the S5, UM2+C each of which can use AA 0.4, AA 0.25, AA 0.8 profiles and profiles that include a different material on the second core.  It gets to be insane.

Add to this that Ultimaker doesn't create the Marketplace profiles - the companies that sell the filament create those profiles and obscure Cura features is not their expertise.

So choose a generic profile that is close and only tweak the temperature (bed and nozzle) if you even do that.

What material are you talking about?  Maybe I've printed it before.

With the Ultimaker 2 you don't select the material in Cura, but on the printer. The original idea was that you could slice once, and then print with different materials from the printer LCD.

That was an interesting idea when the Ultimaker 2 was launched (at the time there were only 2-ish materials that people printed with regularly), but since then people have come to the realisation that you really need to slice differently for different types of materials (eg different types of adhesion, different optimisations to support structures). So for the Ultimaker 2+, you can now select the material in Cura. But the Ultimaker 2 is stuck with the original "no materials" idea.

But there's a workaround. In the Machine Settings, you can change the G-Code flavor from "Ultimaker 2" to "Marlin". This will give you full control over all material parameters in Cura. There's a catch though; if you print from SD, the UM2 will warn you that the gcode overrides the material parameters set on the printer. That is fine though, just ignore the warning; you wanted  to override those settings.
