does a firmware upgrade wipe out all custom scripts?

I had written a python script that sends me an email whenever the printer pauses for unexpected reasons, I had also set up a bunch of add-ons, such as the postfix IMAP transport, nano, etc. After a firmware upgrade, it seems to be all gone. Is that what happens? Is there a way to prevent it from happening upon the next firmware upgrade?

Very cool that you've written a custom python script. 
It reminds me a little of what we have in the digital factory.

 

I've asked around and it seems that the firmware is brought back to a "clean state" before upgrading.

That's probably why your scripts dissapeared. I'm sorry, that must have been frustrating.
That's one of the risks for opening the hood and making changes. 

 

I hope you made a back-up and didn't lose any of your hard work. 🤞
