Posting this solution in case someone else runs into the same issue.

  • In Cura, choose Preferences > Configure Cura.
  • Near the top of the options, check "Slice Automatically."

It's as simple as that. As soon as I changed that setting, Cura sliced, and I had a project that was ready to evaluate.

Or... press the "Slice" button.

The "Slice Automatically" setting has been enabled by default for quite a while now. There's also a message to tell you the model needs to be sliced if there is no layer data, but it has an option to not show that message again, so you may have hidden it before.

    Hey @libertyhouseplans,

I just realized you might be seeing another bug.

If you have adaptive layerheights enabled, but you have empty first layers; you'll see this:

    image.thumb.png.c4c6f9753078d6ed0261e3f5f2919e67.png

Was that what you were seeing?

If you disable adaptive layerheights or if you enable drop to builldplate, it should be resolved.

@MariMakes Yes - there was no option to slice. It looked like that. Struck me as a bug.

I didn't have adaptive layerheights enabled, though. The only way I could get it to slice was to Slice Automatically.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
