Can the filament extruder on UM2+ be replaced to work with 1.75mm filament?

Posted · Can the filament extruder on UM2+ be replaced to work with 1.75mm filament?

I've had a UM2+ for a number of years and always used 2.85mm filament as it was designed for. Recently I've found it harder to find a good selection of 2.85 at the right price. 1.75mm seems like a much better bet.

I've replaced the feeder tube with 2mm ID and 6mm OD and also changed the PTFE hot end and the nozzle with 1.75 spec.

What I'm left with is the extruder. I've read on various forums that by adjusting the tension of the feeder it could be made to work with 1.75 which I've tried but it doesn't seem to be very successful. Are there alternative feeders that can be fitted which are designed to work with 1.75mm filament?
