CURA : request the ability to ignore the part of an object that is outside the printing area

Hey there,

Some other slicers allow to ignore the fact that a part actually overtake the printing area. Like, if it's too much on the left and the arm of statue is out, you get a warning but the slicing remains possible. Actually, just like we can get a part below the bed and the slicing remains possible and will just print from the layer that is on the bed.

It's soooooo annoying to have to modify the scale or to modify the 3d part or the STL just because some part of it is too big and get outside the printing area, while you would be totally fine to ignore theses parts.

It happens to me like once a week with big print on my UMS5, and I really want to avoid going back to Catia, cut the parts, save as stl, etc, just because of 10mm of something that I don't need.

Please 🙂

If you would post this as a feature request over on GITHUB it will be seen by more of the developers.  I'd like to see this as well.  It should be doable to put a Support Blocker in as a Mesh Modifier to cut off the offending piece so it is ignored.  It is not currently possible though.

It needs to be dead simple, no blocker, no parts added to declare that "this zone" should be ignored. By default, what's outside the box won't be printed, with a warning popup and that's it 🙂

Fair enough, though, some easy to use "print blocker" with custom shapes could be interesting. I find the Models Parameters to be reaaaaaaally confusing and anti-ergonomic.

I'm not familiar with Github, but I might give it a go, thanks for the recommandation.

The words "Dead Simple" and "Computer Software" are mutually exclusive.

The proper terminology is "Why won't this #$%^ POS do what I ^%$##$@ want it to do???".

Most people find that at this point a cutting torch and sledge hammer are required to move forward.
