Posted · Replacing print Cores ?

I have just realised my S5 print cores are years old !, quality seems ok, but guess i don't have a new nozzle to compare against. I have a CC for abrasives so the AA's are only used on PLA but are many (5) years old. I am a hobbyist so its not running 24/7, but the 0.4 will have run huge amounts of PLA through in that time.

How often do people replace cores ?, are the UM AA cores harder than normal and hence wear less or just normal brass ?

The AA cores use "normal" brass (if there's such a thing). They will not wear much (if at all) if you only print PLA without abrasive additives. You should be fine, even after 5 years. You don't need a new printcore, unless your current one is giving you issues.

I see no reason to replace them for preventative maintenance. I just run them until they fail, usually because something in the hot end cracks or gets damaged from a filament flood or something, not very often.
