Posted · Problem using Cura with multiple Ultimaker printers

Hi all,

I'm running Cura on a Mac using Ventura 13.2.1.

I have an Ultimaker 3 and an Ultimaker 5S connected via LAN. Both printers are visible in the printer menu.

My question is:

How can I setup the two printers fully independent in Cura?

Problem is e.g. If I load a model for slicing for printer 1 it is also loaded for printer 2. If I already had a model loaded for printer 2 that is removed and the printer 1 model is loaded instead. If printer 2 user adjusted settings were not saved at this point they are lost. This is very annoying.

Same thing happens if the printers are setup as cloud printers.

How can I load a model for printer 1 and fully independent another model for printer 2?

Thanks and regards

Horst

You dont have to "remove" anything.. you just have to select the active printer you want to use..
But you cant have 2 temporary profiles active at once, you need to save one.

That is not true. Each printer "instance'" in Cura can have its own set of temporary ("user") setting values, you don't have to save them before switching.

Edit: hmm, I must admit that I am not sure how this works with multiple "networked" UM printers. I have only one. What I said is true for non-networked printers.

I think @HoAlb is talking about the imported 3D-models (stl files) on the buildplate. Those are not part of printer bounded settings AFAIK. The content (and placement) on the build plate is independent of the selected printer and not "automagically" saved in any way, right?

One can use project files for this purpose, but that's a manual save, not an automated process. (menu: "File -> Save Project...")
