How to engrave less outlines on bottom and top layers

Posted (edited) · How to engrave less outlines on bottom and top layers

Been printing for 10 yrs, so It's weird this is the first time I've had to deal with this....

I am required at work to engrave/emboss the fixture # on all prints....so here is the issue...I usually keep things simple...3 wall layers/outlines for all prints.

Well, if I do that, I noticed my engraving looks really bad. So my only workaround I see is add a support blocker for the first layers that include said engraving and make them only 1 outline/wall, then let the rest of the print use 3 walls.  Is there a way to let the outside of the part use 3 walls and any engraving/embossing only use 1???  See pic as to what I don't like to see....

Yes, do just what you propose.  Although you can create a support blocker you are switching that to a mesh modifier.  But I know what you mean.

Be warned that there will be 3 wall lines from the outer part and one wall line at the inner part where the mesh modifier is so use that as a way to outline the embossed letters.

Another trick might be to use a feature called "ironing" which can, I think, hide those walls.  Maybe play with that as well.
