Cannot launch Cura 5.6.0 on Windows 10. Yes I ran sfc, updated to latest drivers, and I confirmed my hardware runs OpenGL 3.1.  None of it worked so far.

Please don't post a second topic with additional information. You can edit your first post.

If you could upload your log file (%APPDATA%\cura\5.6\cura.log) that could have something that might help diagnose it.

The log shows that Cura is checking to see what OpenGL versions are available (it can use either 4.1 or 2) but that the driver is responding that it only supports 1.1.

This is almost certainly a problem with the graphics drivers. Intel dropped support for them years ago and as far as I can find - and it's not easy looking, Intel don't make this easy for you, haven't released updated drivers for them in over seven years.

The latest versions of Windows 10 have almost entirely dropped support for "legacy" graphics drivers (now you have to use Microsoft's "DCH" standard), generally older drivers only run well enough to make Windows run.

You can submit a bug report but if the problem is driver related, I'm not sure if they'll be able to help you that much.

You could try this "Compatibility Pack" from intel:

    https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nqpsl29bfff?hl=en-us&gl=US

Please tell us if that works.

If it doesn't, there's also this hack, again please let us know if that works, so we can tell other users with old hardware about it:

That is interesting since my OpenGL Extensions Viewer detects 3.1 not 1.1 and the application is only checking for either 2 or 4 not 3, so if I really have 3.1 then that might mean the problem is with the application.  I will attempt the suggestions and then submit a bug report.

If UltiMaker Cura is detecting OpenGL 1.1 then its not the software its what the driver is reporting to it.

    https://support.ultimaker.com/s/article/1667410778209
This article notes minimum OpenGL of 2.0 to "run" but OpenGL 4.0+ to actually use preview mode etc.
Im wondering if this has recently changed around the time of the more recent updates.

With that said.. even if it was running with OpenGL 3.1 as you computer appears to be running.. it would still be a less than optimal experience within UltiMaker Cura

However this is the most I can come up with myself and im not a software developer and can only hypothesize.
UltiMaker does not provide formal support via the Community.
I very much recommend reporting this issue on the UltiMaker Cura github to get assistance from the software team.

    Update! This solution worked!

to install the fix named curafix.sdb copy to c:\ and run from an admin cmd prompt
    sdbinst.exe -q c:\curafix.sdb

I think OpenGL Extensions Viewer shows what the hardware supports, from a database of known GPUs. It does not show what the driver actually supports. I could be wrong though.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
