Cura 5.7 printing double skirts?

When using cura 5.7 I've noticed that the printer prints its 3 passes 3 height skirt, then lays down the first layer of the print.  After the first layer is down, the printer again prints a 3 pass 3 height skirt then goes back to finish the print.  Sometimes the 2nd skirt printed is of a smaller diameter and prints over the first layer.

5.7 does this on each of the 5 printers I'm currently using it for.  A mix of elegoo Neptune 3 and 4's and an ender 3v3

If you could post a Cura project file (.3mf, in Cura get it set up then go to File > Save Project) of a print which demonstrates this problem so we can see all the settings you're using that would really help. Something like this can be hard to troubleshoot just based on description alone.

    Hi there,

I'll think both, Cura (5.70 & 5.71) have this new setting for use of "Skirt"; "Skirt Height" default 3 lines.

Just change this "Skirt Height" from 3 to 1 and it will be as before..

    Thanks

    Torgeir.

It's not a new setting. The skirt height setting was added in 5.4.0.

But yeah, just change skirt height to 1 and it'll draw a skirt (which is more just to make sure your filament is adhering, and possibly get rid of any crud in the system, doesn't help the model at all) only on the build plate. I have no idea why the default is 3.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
