It can print .05mm and even .02mm but that is just silly as the nozzle diameter is more important for any printer you choose to buy. The nozzle diameter for UM Original and UM2 is .4mm. This means the radius is .2mm. This means if you make a perfect square, the corners will have .2mm radius curve. This .2mm is *sort of* the XY resolution. You can get smaller nozzles but Ultimaker does not sell them for the UM2 at this time.
If you print .02mm layers it will take 5 times longer to print than .1mm layers. So a 5 hour print may turn into a 25 hour print. And it won't look much better.
If one really needed a .35 or smaller nozzle, one could use solder to close the hole in a standard UM2 nozzle and then drill a smaller hole through the solder...
