Building other printers

I am really loving to tinker with my Ultimaker. However I really need the machine to be operational all the time, and I don't have the budget to order a second one. As an alternative & fun project, I thought about building a Reprap (like a Prusa). Then I could always have a printer to play around with while the other is working.

Has anyone any experience with printing out the Prusa parts on an Ultimaker?

While I haven't printed printed parts directly, I think you can do it fine. However, I recommend against printing plates, because the stringing problem would make that harder.

There are other designs to consider. For example, a Wallace should be easier to build then a Prusa I think. Then there is the

I am in exactly the same situation myself... I want a second printer to compliment the Ultimaker.... So I am thinking of the Tantillus. I have contributed to the Indiegogo campaign for it and plan to start printing the case soon.... After I finish printing parts for my PCB mill and after I try an experiment that I've been thinking about for a while - parametrically generated and printed home cinema /computer speakers.

    Cheers,

I feel like I made this post wanting to make one extra printer, now I feel like I want to make 2 :D

Thanks to both of you for the tips. The Tantillus seems like the perfect portable printer so I don't have to lug my Ultimaker around. :D

While it looks pretty good. I'm thinking about building an even smaller printer. But that is still in the planning phase.

now that I have my Ultimaker working properly and making real stuff (shouldn't say that during a print should I..)

I was thinking of a 2nd printer too, but a resin based one to make ultra-fine detail small parts.

My intention was to have my ultimaker bootstrap the creation of this by creating most of the parts...
