Posted · love plugin :)

last week DAID was so nice to explain a few basics on cura plugin writing at fablab Breda, so I obviously had to give it a try... resulting in the "I-love-Ultimaker" plugin, which just writes this text before the start of your print.

I created the "I-love-Ultimaker" in CAD (used the logo from the UM2 step file), You can do the same with for example you name or whatever tekst/logo, make sure it's all connected if you want to use the "only follow mesh surface" expert setting of cura, as I did. Export the STL.

Load STL in Cura, on the desired location, scale if needed, make sure to keep it small as you will not be able to use this space for your print. WARNING there's no check so if you place your actual print in the same location it will print over it (well... "over" will depent on your first layer hight setting.

If you want to change the plugin to something else than the current text just change the relevant g-code in the .py file, with g-code representing your text, I used Microsoft Excel to add the "f.write" code around all the g-code lines...

So basically change all lines like

original g-code: G1 X74.18 Y16.06 E1.95300

additions to put in the plugin code: f.write("G1 X74.18 Y16.06 E1.95300\n")

Copy the .py file to your cura plugin folder

Test the plugin in layerview.

disclaimer; you should know I'm a python newbie ... so no guarantee whatsoever !! ...

here's the plugin.... and please let me know if I did something stupid
