I'm using the default settings to print the robot.
It looks like a melting snowman.
Then it started printing way off on the X axis
-
Well I am in a tug of war....
If I have the platform a hair under the nozzle, then set the z limit switch to click there, when I do a test print, it starts printing about 2mm above the platform. If I got a little closer on the z, im too low, just putting grooves in the blue tap (but not ripping it
What's that magic tip to get it just right
-
Silly me...thanks
-
Good to know
Its hard to see for sure if the filament is being pulled in correctly. It was really tight getting the PLA thru the wood opening then I kept hitting the plastic piece around the Bowden tube (in the extruder) to finally get it into the print head.
Based on the fact it dribbled hot plastic, I might be fussing over nothing
How do you gents calibrate your print head to the bed?
Also...I put in a support ticket for the error i got with the limit switch. I saw a lot of discussions about this elsewhere but curious if this is any kind of show stopper?

I thank you for the very detailed reply.
You've been a real help and I look forward to your reposnses!
Squished flat is a great description. Maybe I am being too conservative and not close enough. I have been using the piece of paper can slide thru as a guide but perhaps I need to slowly inch that closer
I'm at work now so I can't try these ideas until this evening.
Does your Ulticontroller give the option as the video shows?
-
I'm curious, how "visible" is the extruder pulling material into the hot end?
From my failed prints, I have material going thru...but should I be seeing a lot of movement from spool to feeder?
I just want to be sure that the extruder is working properly.
Also, this video (
) shows an option in the Ulticontroller to extrude some material, to "prime the pump" so to speak My Ulticontroller does not show this optionIs the ruling to ignore the error I get in calibration? Or do I need to replace some parts?
Looking for lot's of good advice! Thanks

Nothing. I give for the night.
Im torn between wondering if the extruder isnt working right to when it does extrude, it doesnt attach to the surface.
Time for sleep
-
Done Trying again, tip a micron off surface!
-
Clean surface too?
-
Plastic not sticking to surface, just strings everywhere
-
Yes no plasrtic came out :(
-
We did the "home" routing with a piece of paper....so test print away ...?
Finger on the OFF button just in case!
-
Well we can't get beyond that....really wanted to try a test print!
-
Thank you...we nailed that down. (Screws we way in, blocking...all set now)
See other thread...getting problems in Cura with limit switches now
-
We even swapped out the Right and Left (blue) wires to see if it was the switch. Same error after trying that.
Suggestions? Anything we can test or do we need to replace the limit switch?
-
We press the FRONT RIGHT limit switch as it asks and it doesnt go any further

Where on the wiki do you see something indicating that the top of the z-axis is connected to something?
Well if you look at the pictures in the Wiki, step 6 http://wiki.ultimaker.com/Ultimaker_rev.4_assembly:_Z-stage
The picture shows it having two holes on each side for a cap to be screw/nut in
-
Ok, the Wiki references a completed threaded rod. Mine has a flange (about an inch) narrow of now thread...which makes sense to thread into the coupling
However the top...the wiki shows that it is capped off like the two shafts for the z to glide up and down. My kit, there is no such thing So the top of the z screw looks like it sits a mm or two beneth the wood top piece
This sound right?
-
I got it installed....made sure the left side was on really snug....but nothing mechanically holds that in...is there anything I can/should do to make sure this does wiggle out in the future? Or will the rods be plenty of force to keep things in line?
-
Now I know the left side just slides into the side...but it seems when we slide the rods down and thru the Z platform, one rod won't line up with the hole a bit. If we apply some force, the left side of the platform is popping out.
Any tips?

Thank you for your reply
So the short belts ,which would mean the shorter rods...the ones that are on the back and front (as viewed from the front of the machine)....should have some spacing away from the caps. So, about the same as what the coupler on the z-motor has?
-
Tonight we are reviewing the info here http://wiki.ultimaker.com/Calibrate
How "flush" should the pulleys be to the sides/caps? Or should they?
As we read through this, that's the one question we still have
-
Thank you, Sander
Mastory I am not going to reply to the insulting private message you sent. I have notified Ultimaker Staff.

That extra cable is for the extra extruder if you do dual. Or if you break the cable at some point you can use the second one as a spare. It *does* matter which is which when you plug into the circuit board. I mean extruder 1 goes to extruder 1 regardless of which cable/color you use.
Thank you!

My robot print starts OK for a few seconds, then just takes off across the x axis...
