  1. I noticed in your video that the bed first moves slowly, then it drops very fast for like 2cm.

The culprit is a line in your gcode:

    M84 S3600 ; Keep steppers engaged for 1h

M84 is actually the gcode to disable steppers. The Sxxx command is to postpone that.

Unfortunately, S3600 is not implemented in the Ultimaker version of Marlin. What happens instead is that the motors are disengaged until the next move. This causes the bed to drop uncontrolled, later causing the bed to be lowered below the bottom.

I also notice that your nozzle keeps extruding after moving away from the object.

In the pause at height window in Cura, there is a drop down box "Method". For UM3 and all S-line printers you need to select Griffin.

I have a problem with the printer because when doing the automatic leveling it fails and says that the two printcores are at the same height, I have tried to calibrate it with the switch and it continues to give the same error, I changed the printcores and the protective rubber, I thought In cleaning the sensor contacts and the print cores and even replacing the sensor, would there be any option to deactivate the automatic leveling or to solve this error with some firmware?

The bed leveling cannot be disabled by the user. This is for a reason: your first layers will almost always be worse. Really.

@Javier_M What is the exact error that you see on the screen? If it says "same height detected" or something similar, it is almost always due to a nozzle switching failure. It simply probes twice with the right or with the left nozzle.

    What should happen is this:

The first two probes are done from a large distance, and take quite long. The first is done with the right cosr (right core should be lowered) and the 2nd with the left core (right core should be raised). Then the grid probing is started, and should be done with the left nozzle (right nozzle is still raised). Please observe if nozzle switching is happening according to the description.

  3. PEI does not melt at 200gr.

I know someone with over 10 S5 printers, and he installed a BuildTak flexplate system in all of them, with PEI sticker surface. He combines it with 3D lac and has good results for most materials.

Don't turn off active leveling is my advice. The bed is never flat, and running active leveling really gives a better first layer

What kind of threat from my local network should that be? If there's a threat from there, then I guess access to my 3D printer is the smallest problem I have.

I don't know. That is up to you. Maybe someone has gained access to your WiFi, and is snooping around. Then the firewall in the printer would still be an extra layer of security. But I agree with your analysis that access to your 3D printer is then not your biggest problem.

And we all agree that attacks from the Internet are much more likely than those from the LAN, right?

Correct. And the infrastructure in your company protects everything inside your LAN from attacks from the internet.

When your printer is connected to Digital Factory, this does not make your internal network more vulnerable, that is simply a misperception.

Communication with the cloud happens only on initiative of the printer, and all communication with our DF servers is encrypted.

Well, I'm no software developer, so my question is: What is the reason to remove such relatively simple but useful functions from a firmware?
I would guess that the things like the "reprint", the job history, the maintenance reminder and the statistics are not features that would mean a lot of future development effort.
    They are already there. Period.

I'm afraid it's not that simple.

    Another question:
Is Ultimaker a company that puts its own sensitive CAD files, electronics or software data on a cloud server that is controlled by another (relatively small) company?
After all, you also have IP that you do not want to give outside where it's not in your hands to protect the data.

Actually: Yes. Everything is stored in the cloud. We used to store things on Microsoft cloud services, and recently we switched to Google cloud services. Also company sensitive stuff. Personally, I think it's a bit old fashioned to say that the cloud is a risk to your critical business.

  5. Indeed, when the firewall on the printer is enabled, you loose all local access, including the camera stream.

and connecting your printer to the internet with no firewall is just ridiculously risky

Why are you saying this? Connecting the printer to Digital Factory is not the same as "connecting your printer to the internet". You should never expose your Ultimaker printer to the internet without any router and firewall in between.

There is security documentation on our support pages that you may want to study.

It is perfectly responsible to connect your printer to Digital Factory and not have the firewall on the printer enabled.

  6. The message is already loud and clear. I have apologized for the poor communication around this change that we made, and apart from that we underestimated the amount of users that would be affected by this.

We are listening, and we're bringing back reprinting to the local management console (and by the way, also the duplicate print job function). We're bringing it back soon, I expect within a week as I said earlier today.

Some things we will not bring back. The functionality where we group printers will not return.

I'm not sure why multiple people are complaining about losing the camera feed. It is still available via the (trimmed) management console. @OttoclavWhat happens when you go to the management console, and press on the blue round camera button?

And thank you @ESokkoEVBL for your positive note at the end.

  7. I can't help you with the WiFi (contact reseller).

Maybe we can help you with the problem with the filament selection. The printer is asking for PLA Generic.
What filament do you have available in the Material Station? It look like a spool of Ultimaker filament. If you have loaded it and let the NFC detection do its thing, the MS will have recognised it as UM PLA blue. And since that is not the same as PLA generic, the job won't start.

So I think the solution is either to slice for UM PLA blue, or to manually override the material to PLA generic

  8. The first probe is supposed to be done with the right nozzle, and the second probe with the left core.
Then the grid probing should be done with the left nozzle.

I think the best thing you can do is create a support ticket on our website

  9. The silver colored receptacle on the small white pcb is designed to insert the metal conductor from the red wire. When it is new, it can be pushed in without any tooling. But from your picture it is clear that the conductor is broken, and is probably still in the receptacle. This will need some improvisation from your side to repair it if you want to do it yourself.

You can also order replacement parts from your local reseller, and they will be able to provide you with instructions.

  10. As far as I can see you performed the calibration just fine. The behavior in the second movieclip is normal. At the beginning of the printjob the printer makes no assumptions on the position of the lift switch. The move that you see is to make sure the switch of towards the front of the printhead.

What error do you run into when you leave the printer to finish this printjob?

  11. The graph I was showing gives the signal from the capacitive sensor (Y-axis) vs the bed position (X-axis). When the bed is getting closer to the print head, the signal goes up with 1/x. When the bed hits the nozzle, the signal changes direction in the graph. The software looks for the inflection point in the graph.

You have a clear intermittent problem in your capacitive sensor signal, I'm quite sure that is not influenced by software.

When working on the software for the S7 (which has an inductive sensor), some of the code was refactored. It is possible that the old code did not trigger this error, or that this error is newly added to the software.

Either we *are*  looking at a coincidence, or you must have had situations that the found bed height was incorrect in some positions but this was not flagged as an error. The consequence of the latter is that around those failed probe points, the nozzle prints either too high or too low.

You are able to downgrade to 7.1.3, but this can only be done via the software recovery method described here.
Unfortunately this means you have to contact support, because they want to point out safety hazard to you.

I was aware of the library function, but now I understand that it is mandatory to upload the file to it to be able to reprint a part.

I think you misunderstood. If you print a file via Digital Factory, it can be reprinted later by checking your print history. This is automatic, you don't have to upload your part to the Digital Library.

  13. We've taken a look at your log files again. It contained data from more than 100 probes. Most of them are fine, but just a few are not.

    image.thumb.png.becb9e54fc93bcf77b986b82ac2a231a.png

Even without any knowledge on what these signals mean, it's easy to identify the outliers. All the lines which are "noise free" are good, and the 4 noisy lines are bad.

I have no explanation for this, I don't think we've seen this failure mode internally. My advice is to check the wiring inside the printhead (especially the wires towards the small bottom sensor pcb, maybe these are damaged and short to the frame) or else to replace the printhead pcb (the larger pcb that sits vertically in the print head, not the bottom pcb)

You can always create a support ticket on our website, so that customer support will help you further.

It most certainly did, the last time I tried it. Granted, that was many firmware version ago, so perhaps that changed, but it used to turn off the management console. You are able to confirm now though, that with firmware version 8.1, if I put the machine on Digital Factory, I can still access the management console via browser and use the iOS app from phone and tablet?

Yes I can confirm that a printer that is connected to the cloud can have the firewall on or off. I am 99.9% sure that was always the case, because every printer that I work with is connected to DF, and I often access the printer locally via its IP address. That is not possible when the firewall is enabled.

I cannot comment on the iOS app, I am not sure whether that still works

    this answer

I think you are not reading my answers (plural) in this thread well. I clearly said "we hear you" and "we're investigating what it means to bring back reprinting via management console soon".

But I am also proud of the cloud functionality that we have realized over the past year. This direction was taken 3 years ago, and has nothing with the merger with Makerbot. Digital factory is a joy to use. Try it.

  16. By the way, Ultimaker has thought well about security. We understand it is a concern of IT departments, and in the past years we made large steps to address these concerns. We have very large companies as our customers, and these all set high security standards.

There is a lot of documentation on our support pages on the subject of security: https://support.makerbot.com/s/global-search/security

Maybe it is worthwhile having the discussion with your IT dept (again). Why? Because the cloud offering may add value to your business. Store your files (STL and 3MF) in the Digital Library. Share print files with colleagues. Browse through the print history of ALL your printers instead of on a single printer. etc etc

It is there on the local management console, but you cannot access the local management console once you put the machine on Digital Factory.

Connecting your printer to the cloud does NOT turn off access to the management console.

Only if you turn on the firewall, the machine becomes unreachable via LAN. It will then only be accessible via the cloud.
