Agree with most of these things. I think it always depends on the personal workflow each user has. For example, I hate the char. limit on the UM2 display because I tend to slice several version of the same model in advance and name them like:
- object1_no_infill
- object1_fast_retractions
- object1_low_speed_three_shells
If I forget to keep the file names short, they get truncated and later I can't distinguish them. Of course for this scenario having the most important print settings scroll by at the bottom when selected, would be priceless. But for other it might be meaningless.
You could take a look at the Tinkgergnome firmware. It has lots of advanced and useful settings.

Hi Luc,
check for any loose wires at the back of the heated bed. Also take off the board cover at the bottom of the printer (it is by two screws only) and inspect the board for any loose or broken connections.
-
Hi,
That's not that easy to do. It depends on the source file format and the tool you are using. I fought with Blender a while ago trying to do the same but gave up at some point.

Hey @StolleJay,

Or one could use any tool and provide the source files in STEP or IGS. Then any other decent tool could import it.

Thanks Peggy. So I've either hit a bad batch or my z-screw is screw... bad. I wrote the exp-tech folks where I ordered my z-nuts and we'll see what they say.
-
I tested the old and the new one at different heights on the z-screw and there is play everywhere. So I guess not. The question is - is my z-screw thinner than the norm or are all z-nuts that I tried too big?
-
I noticed they sell the entire stepper+z-screw+z-nut too:
https://www.pololu.com/product/2268
But I don't know if I want to shell out ~55€ for another test. I might be that the nut has some play there too.
Apparently @neotko got really lucky with his z-nut:
-
Alright, ordered the z-nut here. I installed it but sadly it has some play too :(
Round objects (the cute octopi for example) is a little better but straight walls like these on the stretchy bracelet are still bad :/

The spaghetti monster could be very well a garden gnome
Very nice print! Which filament did you use?
-
Try to put the relevant words in quotes. Something like: "set screws" um2+.
-
And if you are willing to check if they fit...
Igus has no balls XD
I wonder how much noiseless can they be...
Btw. I've used the igus linear bearings on a Delta and they were very silent. On the UM2 z-stage it doesn't make sense since the z-motor/thread is quite loud and one doesn't hear the linear bearings anyway.

But I can haz both for extra awesome printing qualities, right?

Hm, the problem is - I could live with the actual ones but I want them to be as perfect as possible. I originally though to print the z-nut too, but now I've ordered a new one for 5€. So I'd rather not print the bushings. The Tribo filament is hard to print with and for a simple linear bearing I had to do a crazy amount of iterations... I'd rather use this filament for some other lower priority purpose

Btw. I think I have the same issue. Posted it here.
-
@neotko: I'll keep this in mind if the new z-nut and linear bearings won't work
And I noticed that I started two threads for the same issue. I'll close this post now and will continue here:

DAFUQ - You need to create an advanced account to order from Misumi. And not only that, they have two other account types and you can't upgrade from them to "advanced". I guess they don't really like customers. Rather old school purchasing agents who order 200000 pieces at once...
-
Thanks! For reference, if you need it from Germany:

Would you mind to share the model? I have Igus Tribo filament here

Ok, I have assembled everything and printed a bracelet and an octopus. The bracelet doesn't look better, the octopus only slightly. The z-stage sounds weird now. Maybe I need even more grease...
I think I'll replace the bearings and the nut. The question is - where to get them? The bearings are here (although @neotko praised the Mitsumi thingies):

Es kommt darauf an was du druckst. Kleine Objekte mit vielen Details profitieren davon sehr. Große, einfache geometrische Objekte eher nicht.

Alright checked everything you two mentioned. There is no play in the x/y gantry. The feeder motor is new (part of the Extrusion Upgrade Kit).
I have disassembled the z-nut/stage and completely cleaned the threaded rod. I noticed though that the z-nut has quite some play. Is this "normal"?
The z-stage without the rod moves fine and without resistance. The bearings are a bit loud but I guess that's fine.
After assembling everything again, I remembered this sound. Check out the video and turn the volume up. In the first few seconds when the z-stages moves there is some kind of crackling sound - like there is plastic foil trapped between the threads (which isn't the case...). It was always like this - since I've got the printer.
I am printing two test objects to see if something changed after cleaning the threaded rod.

Was genau ist passiert?

Hi,
nice concept. I think it would instill more faith in people if you'd add some photos of the printed model.
And btw. which software did you use to visualize the assembly? It looks awesome!
