Hi Again! Nice to know about policarbonate. Yes metacrilate is perpex, but i look for termal propereties and "termal conductivity coeficient" is 0.19 W/(k*m) for both, that means the isolation will no vary a lot, maybe it not compensate the price difference, or are you planing to use this one with air chamber? I mean i know policarbonate is better for sunny place and have more heat resistance but we are running at 60-70 degrees and the important thing is the termal isolation witch is the same for both (well 0.19-0.22 W/(k*m) at 23 degrees for policarbonate and 0.19 at 20 Cº for perperx, i've not found the variation with temperature, maybe at 70Cº there's a significant variation between both, i don't know. The control of temperature i use is really simple. It's an old arduino board with three lm35 temperature sensor. This sensor is linear so no table is needed (as for thermistor 100k used for the bed) it has .5 Cº precision so is more than ok. I put three of them (one at bed level (close to the ultimaker logo in the back of the bed) one on the head level (close to the hot end but far enough to don't be affected for the heat of the hot end it self) and the other one is free so i can move around to estimate the temperature gradient in the chamber. (i also put it in the lectronics to be sure the hot air is nor burning the board and it's on 45-48Cº, i hope is not too much for the board) Only one of them i use for a trigger (the one in the hot end, i guess as it is the closer one to the nozzle it's better for control the temperature closer to the extrusion). The trigger is set between 60 and 65ºC so the heater just turn on when is 60 or less degrees and turn off at 65, i control the heater with a relay. I thought about PID temperature control but i think it won't have lot of benefits. But now i'm thinking in the possibility of use the second extruder option to control the chamber, so i can set the tempeature with the ulticontroller without modify too much marlin firmware and without extra harware. Sure someone have done this. I mean put a thermistor with a 4k7 pullup resistor, same we use for the hot bed, but connect the relay for the heater and then in the ulticontroller the temperature of the second nozzle will be the chamber temperature. I'm not sure if i've explained my self well enough, tomorrow i will try that if i get a 100k thermistor. And then maybe is easy to modify the marlin firmware so the ulticontroller could show chamber temperature instead of nozzle2... has anyone done this set/mod? I have one question after read your post. Are the gases emited for the ABS very toxics? i have the printer in my workshop and i expend a lot of time there, i have no gases out as you mention and now i wonder is this gases, and the plastic smell after few hours printing is toxic... i mean, it's necessary this air exit? Because if you are heating air and then you are taking it out we will miss a lot of energy, and i wouldn't like to have an ultimaker within a heat chamber, within another box with fumes exit.... but i will do if it's necessary. So best is do it for approximation? Knowing the value should be something between 0.7 and 0.76... Now i notice than infill overlap 40% it's seen more than 50% in the print it self so i suppose the nozzle is bigger. Now my settings is are 0.7. In order to do a mistake is better do it up or down? Hi! I was thinking to do an almost exactly king of heat chamber, with translucid metracrilate and almost the same design. Finally to do some test i did id with har wood (a kind of dm wood) and the result are pretty good. I use an arduino and three lm15 temperature sensor to control the temperature. At the begining i used a hairdryer and a kind of "Trickle vent fitting" similar to the one you have done. The problem was the air flow in the hairdryer is too much and the air come out too hot so the "trickle vent" become soft and loose the form even with abs. Now i'm using this kind of air heater for room that has less air flow (no so fast as hairdryer) but much more heat and less noisy. It's working good. Witch king of heater are you planing to use? Hi! Looking for a faster and strong prints woth abs on an UM original recently i've drilled one 0.4 original nozzle (i had two) with an 0.7 bit (in fact it was 0.68). The fact is that i don't know exactly the hole diameter cause i can not measure exactly with my caliper but i supposed is something between 0.70 and 0.76. I wonder if there is any relationship between the diameter of the extruded filament and the hole of the nozzle. I remember i read somewhere a 0.35 nozzle extrudes 0.41mm filament or something like that. Does anybody know if a exist a relation table so i can estimate the drilled hole diameter measuring only the extruded filament diameter? Thanks

Hi! Thanks for answering. I suppossed it was that. I'm experimenting with a regulated heat chamber (home low cost made), i would like to work at 60+-2 degrees. By now i'm experimenting with the temperature gradient around the bed to have more control of the temperature but even with no control the results are being very good. I will post about it. Thanks.

Even i get some warping in some prints i know what cause it and how to solve it. I'm trying to print a box for a portable amp 185x185x130mm. What i found is some underextrusion at random layers, so layers are not well stuck together, this result in warping along the piece and broken it.

Hi! I've been doing some test for a while. I have interference with pwm even with one fan. The temperature became unestable if the fan was not at full speed (so full duty cicle in pwm) I put a twisted cable out of the printer as gr5 said. It works well and now temperature is totally stable. The bad thing is now i have one extra cable...

Well, i say this because it happend to me with my first ultimaker order (1400€) and nobody tell me nothing, i called everyday during 4/5 days and nobody give me a solution until i call very angry. Then the next day my ultimaker was shipped. Just i wanted to tell you i understand the feeling and the situation, is very frustrating when you pay such amount for something and you now nothing about what happened with your money while it was taked from your account in miliseconds. And then they now nothing about it. I also think they should improve in a lot of things, not with the printers but with the customer service, a good product isn't enough. Today, after two weeks and i don't know how many e-mails i receive two stepper drivers and one filament and they have it in stock, the payment was lost. I can not undestand how one electronic payment can be lost but... finally it arrive. I'm sure you will have your refund.

About this, i have to say maybe there's many problems (as i read and for my own experience) with orders and payments but soon or later they find a solution, even you have to insist a bit, later everything is ok with ultimaker team. Just we have to work in our patience. Maybe one yoga or meditation course should be included with the printer until you get it.

Two days after i order it, just asking why the order was still "balance due and how time will take to ship it and for the next time witch payment way is better or faster . This was the answer: Hi Raimon, I'm not really sure how long it will take, I think max 2-4 days. Debit cards charge instantly but PayPal only charges your account if the recipient actually receives the money. So maybe PayPal is a better option for you next time! I think it is also a bit faster. Yes. I'm in contact with sales team, i send a receipt of the payment, reference number my bank give to me, everything. I sent it yesterday. Today i expend all the day trying to get an answer with a solution. And the fact is another day wothout a solution while i have done the payment and everything right. From sales they told me they are waiting an answer from finacial team because they don't find the payment, but the fact is another day waiting. Another day without solution since i did and pay the order one week ago. I would like to say good service, but i can't. I'm still surprised with how you manage all the problems.

Hi! On 5th november i ordered two stepper drivers and some filament from the web side. The payment was charged automaticaly to my debit card but i didn't received any confirmation e-mail. It was strange. After few days without news, just the same state in my acount as "balance due" i contact sales and they told me they were waiting the payment (strange cause debit card is charged instantaneity) no more news, yesterday i contact again and they told me they have no proof for the payment, even it was taked from my account at the same time i did the order. I can not belive it. How is posible to lose one transfer? Is the second time i ordered something from ultimaker and i hope to be the last. Booth times i have problems with something, first with the order it self now with the payment. At least this time sales team answer fast and i have not to call 6 times by phone until i get angry. By the moment... By now i still have not a solution even i send the bank receipt of the paymeny, the card number and everything they need, and nothing. I don't know if i have very bad luck or you are terrible with this. I can not understand how you can lose electronic money and not take responsabilities for this. It's amazing. First e-shop i have problems with. Amazing products but...

The interferences have sense. Normally the pwm frequency to control motor is over 20khz, 32khz usually... Could interfere. I will do some test and i will post it...

So you think the optimum fan speed is 180? Maybe my fan duct design is also not the best one because just make all the air directly to the nozzle. But even this, the termocoupler try to give stable temperature, isn't it? So it should give enough energy to get it stable even there is more cooling. I don't think the air take more energy (heat) to the nozzel than the board is able to give... I don't know if i explain my self good enough...

Hello. I suppose double fan have some benefits to the prints so the printed part is cooled symmetrically. For this reason i decided to conect another fan to my ultimaker original. I design a fan duc with solidworks, printed it and mount it. As the fan have low current consumption i decide to connect it in parallel and i supposed the mother board out for the fan could assume this 100mA extra current, and it did it. Everything was working perfect until i decide to change the speed of the fan. When i changed the speed a bit, from 255 to 180. The temperature becomes unstable a decrease drastically, to 170/180 and is unable to increase to the temperature i was printing with. This don't happen with one fan only. I assume the out of the fan doesn't come directly from the arduino board cause arduino out could only give 40mA. But i don't undestand why changing the fan speed down affect the temperature. Has anyone had any problem like that? This only happen with the double fan.

Hola! Otra usuario de ultimaker por aquí. Hace sólo mes y medio que me llegó pero al comprarla por y para trabajar me he dedicado totalmente durante este tiempo. Suficiente para comprender bastante la máquina. Estoy deseando leer impresiones sobre la UM2. Yo finalmente me decidi por la original, por el precio, (la 2 no viene en kit) y segundo por que al haber menos usuarios y por su propia contrucción le puedes meter menos mano. Es menos manipulable, pero tengo la sensación de que va a ser muy buena máquina para "comprar e imprimir". Cura puede ser sencillo pero no se necesita más. Puedes controlar todo lo que necesitas controlar, temperatura, filamento, velocidad y retroceso. Comparado con Netfabb por ejemplo en lo único que supera es en la edición del stl. Pero netfabb demo sólo está capado para exportar el gcode, el stl se puede editar y guardar igual. Lo único que he hechado de menos en cura es poder controlar los parámetros de impresión de cada objeto independientemente cuando se imprimen varios objetos o poder hacer variaciones temporales o según las capas de un objeto, esto sería fantástico para calibrar o para cambiar la velocidad o temperatura en los momentos en los que se necesita más detalle. Me ahorraría estar delante para hacer los cambios a mano. Estuve probando con slic3r para ver si había diferencia según el slicer que se usa, pero cura me pareció mucho más potente.

When i first turn power. Just X axis when i turn on power. I exchange motors, and i exchange controllers. it comes from the board, from the x out to the motor. So is not the motor it self. Is the electronics. Just it start after four or five days working. Thanks for your comments and your interest. I've learned a lot with all your posts. Thanks.

Well i undestand is a problem with all this changes. The fan is also noisy, i have problems with that fan, depends on the position it becomes very noisy. The sound is the motor, there's a vibration on it during half a second.

I would like to share my experience with ultimaker support and sales not just to complain but to help to improve a bit this services because under my point of view is the weak point of your machines. I orderer an ultimaker original kit on 13th september. Every thing seams to be ok and i received a confirmation email just after the payment, i could follow the order in the web side just "waiting for shipment" or i don't remember. Few hours after my order was announced that on 20th september ultimaker 2 was going out. Obviously i wanted to know what was this new product before to get a new 3d printer an i wrote to support to know if it was possible to put my order in "stand by" until i know price and spects. They answer quickly and gently, they were very nice with that. My order appeared like "cancel" but the payment was done and everything was ok until 20 september arrived. On 20th new product was going out and unfortunately there was not a kit and was little out of my budget, i also like to play, and trink so i decide to keep my old order but the issues start just in that day... My account just disappear, i couldn't follow my old order, there was no order, there was not account but there was payment. I wrote them once, twice, no answer. Wait few days, write again, no answer, i knew they were busy with the events, no answer. Then i call for first time, they told me to call the next day, i called the next day, tell me to call the next day cause the system was down. I wrote again, no answer. Then i recived an e-mail asking me if i received the product because the order appears like closed before it was shipped. That surprise me a lot because i've called like four time explaining my case again and again just to know something about the order cause it was close and i needed and invoice within september and was the last day, i was almost praying for a solution. They told me that was not possible to recuperate the last order and we should do a new order with new date (1st october). Then i call back little angry. Talk to the person i talk with the las two or three days, i was talking seriously with respect but very angry. My order was shipped the next day with the invoice date of my first I'm sad about this, i think is not thing with ultimaker people, is somthing about human race, you have to get angry and scream and threaten to get one solution that could be done with my first call. About the machine i have to tell that it's impressive. I'm really happy with it, i really enjoy mounting the kit, and the quality of the prints is just amazing. Just i have some issues with belt tension and calibration and all this things, but i like to deal with them. Now one the motors started to do strange sound just one second when you turn on, i was doing some test and it comes from electronic board, not the stepper controller, not the motor. I hope it's nothing. But during the tests i saw one of the little coolers of the stepper controllers was fall down. So i decided to order a new controller. I tried to enter in my account again and it was out, trying to restart my password it said the "ooops something were wrong" message, so, again, i did a new account and ordered it yesterday. I've got no any confirmation e-mail about my order, no confirmation, no receip, nothing, just waiting again. Now the order appear as "balance due" i don't know why because they took my money directly from my bank account and i paid by credit card. But no news again. Is very frustrating to get something, pay for it, and know nothing about it unless you write or call or insist or get angry again. First time i spend 20€ calling from spain to netherlands just to get some information and get something i paid 10 days ago. Now the order is just three things that you have to put in a bag and send it to spain. I hope i have not to wait 10 days more to be shipped and i have not to spend 20€ more to get it shipped. I don't know the solution, maybe you are overtaked by this new product, new line, new web. All old accounts delete... I can understand that if you explain it, i think as a customer i can understand but i need an answer, at least an answer to my mails. I think you should take more care of the customers, every one of us have paid more than thousand euros and a least we expect answers. Maybe you need more people working with you to manage all this thousands of customers sending mails, i don't know and i don't care but just a good product isn't enought.
