  1. If you are experiencing the bed bouncing during feed moves, you are over extruding.

Not per se. Like @jkirgis says: It is always when doing waffle fills on empty spaces. I suspect the plastic tends to sag a bit at the crossings and starts to form a point upward, which after a while causes the bouncing.

Anyway, if that really is the Z bouncing up and down then I'm afraid I cannot help you.

I do agree on the bed being attached at 2 ends... And auto calibration etc ;)

  2. To me it seems more like the bottom of the nozzle going over the print of the plastic itself... Sometimes with a lot of retractions etc it creates "hills" on top of the print that are a bit higher than where the head is positioned at. If it moves over it bounces the bed up and down.

I'd have to hear the actual sound being made to compare it to what I've experienced a multitude of times, but it sure looks the same visually.

  3. So I'm wondering... Is there anything actually tested before it is deployed? Like "ow look we finished preview, and it works, lets deploy"! But nobody tested through the entire flow of actually posting with and without preview.

Being a web-developer myself, I've had a lot moments of vicarious shame here lately..

  4. So, for those of you who are surprised by me leaving this forum, here is my explanation:

Not surprised here, just sad. Many of us feel this way, many have taken a break to see what will happen in a month or so.

    Yeah, indeed, same here.

I'm one of those idiots who has also written his own forum from the ground up.

My target audience has little to no computer experience and didn't understand phpbb / vbulletin when I started the site 15 years ago, so it was a conscious decision.

A year or so ago I rewrote most functionality. When I migrated my 5 million+ posts to the new system I made sure to keep the old urls live and all the extra data etc (you REALLY don't want to mess with your google links!).

I did that migration in 3 days whilst keeping both versions of my site live (one readonly, one not).

Anyway, to come to my point: If I had know then what I know now, I would've just invested time in "dumbing" down an existing implementation and integrating it. Those people have been coding those forums 10+ years and still have to change things daily.

I was pretty dumb to think I would be able to do that on my own as well.

The site is still running today and my visitors like the forum, but I still feel like I'm missing most functionality, even after all those years. And I'm very glad it's not a technical public or I would've closed doors a couple years ago already. Just to say "bezint eer ge begint", as we say in Belgium. But that is too late already I guess.

  5. I actually heard yesterday that my actions (not the crappy excuse for a forum) is hurting the community according to some people. I would have loved to make a poll about that.

I've just been reading this topic and @korneel's one the last few days, I really don't feel like participating anymore. It just seems that the entire thing is trying to push me out and I can't fantom the energy anymore to bother.

But @Daid, I just have to respond here utter my support for you. All the UM announcements and decisions lately just give me the impression that people there run around short-sighted and with blinkers. You seem to be one of the only persons breaking that pattern and I applaud you for it.

And like I've said before: The UM2 is not a plug and play printer and we don't need another facebook. Don't treat your community like a bunch of dumb assess. Just a clean and clear forum where people can find the information very quickly.

And seriously! I just pressed the bold button in that editor toolbar and it navigates to the top of the page? My god, you amateurs! Ever heard of an event.preventDefault()? So many amateur mistakes here, I really can't wrap my head around it.

  6. I am not going to claim I don't get the reasoning why UM is moving in this direction, because I do. It is the same philosophy as their marketing points for the UM2... It is supposed to be easy and simple and you shouldn't have to be too technical to use it.

If that is the road they feel the have to take, so be it.

I've already voiced my concerns about this, as most users - who effectively use their printer - tend not to be beginners for long and will quickly start to miss interaction in a regular, forumy way. For me personally, it doesn't really work and a lot of things feel wrong, but there's little we can do about it. I just don't like the "lets take your handy and guide you around"-mentality, but everyone needs this in the beginning to get started.

That being said, I agree fully with your sentiment that there at least should be a regular forum out there, official or not. If UM refuses this, perhaps we can think of setting up one ourselves.

  7. Small update:

    * remember me cookie fix

For me the remember me functionality is most definitely not fixed, unless coming back an hour later and having to login again falls outside of the "remember me" criteria. 3rd login today.

  8. Since this is an in house system now, I'd like a topic where the changes and additions are posted. Basically a Release Notes topic like for YouMagine. That way we can easily figure out how long we have to keep whining for things to be added/fixed ;)

  9. Just to double check, are you looking at the right page?

Sometimes when I click a notification it doesn't take me to the last page, where the last post is.

Hmm, I must always click on the wrong place in a notification then, because it has never taken me to somewhere else than the first page.

  10. Nope, can't find anything like that either... Notifications just take you back to the first page it seems.

I've been wondering if this thing is built on top of some pre-existing social framework or if everything was written in house. In any case, even if everything is in house, some basic tracking should've been added. If you want the real thing, keeping in mind multiple levels of forum and topics, it's not simple to write (trust me, I wrote one myself a couple months back), but having no functionality at all in that direction... Hmm

I also wonder who is doing the math here... My point overview says 10 + 10 + 597 + 4 and that seems to total to 251 :)Guess the aggregation script hasn't ran since they correct the post count :)

Also: What's with the being logged out again every time... sjeez!

  11. Guess you'll have to run the reputation aggregation again as well then ;)

It's there so we might as well fully embrace it!

Also seems that a lot of posts now have plain HTML in there like blockquotes and img tags (eg the "What have you made" topic), will anything be done about that?

  12. Wow, guys, really?

    c) All things take getting used to etc etc, but I am really, totally, utterly, completely lost. I understand what the people were thinking and trying to create, but there is just too much spacings everywhere, leading to a 1% information density.

Same here... I've been settling in a certain way of using the forum for the past year and I now feel as if the rug was pulled from under my feet :) The 1% of information density is very accurate, it's the same feeling I have.

  13. My main issue with all of this is that you don't seem to have looked at how active (or not) people want to be on the forum. 99% of the time I just like to visit the main forum page (usually once or twice a day) and see if there was new activity. A single pageview that gives me all information and fuels my decision whether I'm interested in clicking into forums or not.

This thing has been designed with an "information overload" in mind it seems. I really don't care about a feed of all lasts posts, I care even less about having to subscribe to every topic that I deem interesting so that I get a notification and I definitely don't want to click into every forum.

Of all the forums there are about 6 or 7 that really interest me and you're now forcing everything down my throat.

Sure, I get that you want to build a community and do social stuff, everyone does these days. All of this makes me feel like I'm being forced to do more on the site than just see if there is something I wish to respond to.

  14. Not really constructive but I have the feeling I just lost everything I liked on the ultimaker forum. It's an extreme pain to find out where new things are posted. we used to be able to see the entire overview for all forums in 1 page, now we have to click through a ton of pages to find anything. Sure, sleek looks but so far I see nothing that I like. Just my 0.02

  15. If it's technically possible that would be cool!

I am still hoping that Cura will start adding meta comments for the progress as well.

That way the firmware can start showing more accurate times while printing instead of how much % of the file was processed already... I've had it occur more than once that it says 1 minute left and it still has 10 minutes work and vice versa :)
