After insulator change , both side fans are not working, now.
mayo77 replied to mayo77's topic in UltiMaker 3D printers
Thanks so much for the help, i really appreciate it. After your tip, of magnifying glass. I checked my v 2.1.4 board and found out I have the same transistor as you The on top it reads "6BW 25" also known as the "BC817-25" resistor on my board. I ordered a 50 lot (i couldn't find lower lot for the exact same transistor) on ebay for 11$ lol. If i can fix this 500$ board for 11$(+ 50-100 labor) i will be super happy. So now i will just wait for the parts. Once the parts arrive i will try to find a local SMD solderer, if i cant find one i will practice like you said on old board (i have tonnes of old motherboards here). Do it myself if need be, but that might cost more because i will need to buy an soldering iron and everything... Kapton tape is another great tip so thanks! Wow im so happy thanks so much, for all your help! -

I went through support in USA and they told me it was a blown PWM controller on the board. SO BE warned if you pinch your fan wires you can SHORT out youir board and you will have to buy a new board. This mistake costed me 500$ Canadian to fix, as i had to replace the entire board. You sent me a pm about how I fixed mine. I wrote down how I did it on this posts This speaks for the first and second time I had to fix the transistor bc817 https://ultimaker.com/en/community/11366-cooling-fan-always-on-umo-update-now-voltage-its-0 This is the third and fourth I think. https://ultimaker.com/en/community/17214-fan-pwm-output-0v-umo-board-solved-not-solved And this shows photos atep by step (very rough) of how I do it the seventh time: http://www.3dprintingforum.us/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=12&p=2513&hilit=Bc817#p2513 You need a solder with temp pwm (or one with a very fine tip). Or & a airblower for desolder. Lead wire. Patience. And it helps a lot to have a copper wire and some reflow (reflow with copper wire + heat takes the soldered stuff quite fast) You will need to learn how to do it with other board. I used a dead old phone circuit. When you can solder/desolder this on a dead board then you can do it with the um2.1 board. Also, it's easy when you do it 2-3 times. But the first time I paid a guy to change the transistor, the second time a friend showed me how to do it and the third-seventh I did it. Awesome thanks so much for this one more thing can you please show me the exact transistor to buy please! i will probably just buy the part and find someone else to do the work, if i cant find anyone i will try but id rather have a pro do it first. -
Cheaper filament but just as good (or even better)

why is ultimaker filament crazy expensive?
mayo77 replied to lance-greene's topic in Materials & profiles
You don't need to buy the expensive utimaker filament I bought the cheep stuff i have ZERO issues with it, prints fine and is less than half the price. The brainwashing of "you must ultimaker everything crap" is exactly that crap, buy 1 roll of the "cheap" stuff see what you think. This is the ultimaker website so obviously they try and push their product.. but is it superior, in my opinion no. I have 8 rolls of the cheap stuff (i got 1 kg for 29$ shipped) printing daily and i find the cheap abs is better than the ultimaker 65$ per 750 grams ABS in fact lol. I will never buy a roll of filament from ultimaker unless they cut their prices in half. -
that everybody found some on ebay for 1 $ each lol. Im gonna try them out, if they suck ill try elsewhere.

Just looking for alternative tips, so do you know either where to get good cheap tip or what type of threads is in an olson block?

Ultimaker 2 Printhead Fans Parts replacement list
mayo77 replied to insight01's topic in Third party products & modifications
SO nobody has ever bought new side fans? lol I cant find them anywhere. -
Ill be honest i have had ALOT of problems already.. Belts shredding right out of the box, fans stop working, feeder ends just coming loose and falling off, PTFE coupler done in like 2 months, changed to an olson block, heater, i dunno the list is just on and on and i only had it 4 months.... maybe i got a lemon, but my machine is anything but durable, seems overly fragile to me, all the wires are like 400 gauge..my hair is almost thicker. I think I'm in the range of 300$ on parts already and my fans just went down today, and it might be the main board(waiting on tech support) so who know how much more thats gonna cost me.

So finally my 1st Teflon insulator went on my machine. I followed the guide i found on this website and successfully changed it. Prints seemed to get better. Then i noticed this morning both my side fans were not working. I found out upon reassembly of the print head I must have pinched the fan wire, and cut it.(i really wish this would have been mentioned in the guide to be AWARE of the fan wires, but anyways, in the end it was my fault, but i wish it was mentioned as it really should be.) I shut down the machine and cut out the damaged piece of wire added a small piece of wire and soldered it back together, increasing the length. The connections should be fine since i soldered them together, and the fan does in fact have power. If i touch the fan or blow on the fan it starts going, but it can never seem to do it on its own. Any ideas ? Where can i buy just fans, can i grab them off ebay, or do i need 70$ OEM fans, kinda tired of buying parts for this thing :/ costing me a fortune.

How do i get more prints on my bed? Pics included!
mayo77 replied to mayo77's topic in UltiMaker Cura
But these prints are 2-3mm in height only, this is why I'm asking. My original question should have been clearer i think. Im gonna give this a try because they will fit under the shroud and i have to print a bunch. Thanks, any tips on the settings or should i just mess around with them lol ? -
How do i get more prints on my bed? Pics included!
mayo77 replied to mayo77's topic in UltiMaker Cura
Thanks that is what i figured i was hoping i could print at one time and have the parts close, but im guessing not then. -
I regularly print very low profile prints (2-5mm in height) cura always defaults to leaving a large area around the print so the fans dont "hit" the already finished print, but these prints are so low profile its not required... is there anyway to force cura to place more objects on 1 bed. For example I want it to print another in between those is that possible, if so how do i got about it please?

I have tried the staple brand gluestick and Desktec gluestick. Sometimes they hold sometimes they fail, ABS slurry works every single time but i hate how you get abs slurry chunks stuck to your print and how the cleanup of the abs slurry is a pain. DO you have a glue stick or certain brand of hairspray that works every single time with ABS? If so please tell me some brands i will be buying them and checking them out.

Hey everyone Im pretty new to the 3d printing scene but, I am seriously making a go at making a small business out of this machine. With that being said, downtime could potentially cripple my business, so what spare parts do you think i should have on hand? Is there anything that sort of just goes every now and then which can cripple your machine? Im not really into spending a fortune if possible but, what would you suggest I have and why?

How to recalibrate or move the zero location of the X axis?
mayo77 replied to mayo77's topic in UltiMaker Cura
ok thanks, but where is the limit switch? -
My x axis 0 , on my printer seems to be way to far away from the side of the wall. According to pronterface, my ultimaker extended has a max x axis of 219, which seems way off, considering most people seem to have 229-230. My x axis when sitting "0" is sitting 7.4 + mm away from the wall. So question is how can I move the x axis more to the left (closer to the wall), and make that zero? How do i go about doing this?
