  1. Thanks. I tried both when signed in and not. I'll have another attempt shortly.
  2. I take it that is the text ile C:\Users\terry\AppData\Roaming\cura\4.12\cura.log, 2 MB with over 7000 lines? (You use the word 'logs', plural, but the only other one I have is called 'cura.log.1' and is 25 months old.) BTW, the dragging method of attaching files doesn't work here. cura.log
  3. I am trying to add the extension ThingiBrowser. I followed the instructions here: https://github.com/ChrisTerBeke/CuraThingiBrowserPlugin/blob/main/docs/installation.md#Via-Ultimaker-Cura But as you see from my screenshots I've had no success. Has this interesting extension/plugin been removed> ?
  4. Thanks Carlo, I'll try that approach.
  5. Third time lucky... "BTW, I did ask before how to mark a post as solved" Can I assume then that there is no way to do so?
  6. Thanks, but that doesn't square with what happens here. I manually change to the folder where I want to save the file. Cura duly saves it. But the next time I start a save, whenever that is, the folder that appears as the default is once again C:\Program Files\Ultimaker Cura 4.12.1 What happens on your PC?
  7. Duh - I see now it's a Brim that I needed! With size 6 chosen that worked fine. BTW, I did ask before how to mark a post as solved?
  8. When I save to disk after slicing, the default offered is always C:\Program Files\Ultimaker Cura 4.12.1 ... where I'd never want to place my output. Where can I change that please?
  9. I'm testing some small text labels, typically a 30 x 12 x 2 mm rectangular base holding 6 to 8 characters. So there needs to be some thin support to keep the individual characters from lifting off the bed. I tried the Support > Raft option, which worked fine. However it's rather wasteful of time and PLA, as it extends for the full interior of my usual skirt. Is there a setting I've missed that will let me reduce it please? If instead I decide to just add a small support rectangle myself, in my model, is it possible to make its infill different to the text, so that it will completely come off easily?
  10. Thanks Smithy, missed that! EDIT: Something else that's no doubt staring me in the face: how do I mark this as solved please?
  11. Thank you, understood. I'd not tried 'Post Processing' as I'd wrongly assumed that was irrelevant to pausing during a print. I'm still at the novice stage so... While using Cura's excellent Preview mode, how can I determine the layer ('height') that I should use for ''Pause at height' please? For background, I will be trying to print white text on a black base. To postpone studying the obscure art of g-code, marlin, etc I'd like to try simply using the Pause button. So need to know roughly when to be poised to do that.
  12. PrusaSlicer has a handy feature to assist with pausing and resuming a print in order to change filament. https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/insert-pause-or-custom-g-code-at-layer_120490 Is there a similar feature in Cura please?
  13. Cura slices a file named say 'xyz.stl' and gives it a default name of 'CE3PRO_xyz'. Is there a setting I've not yet found making it possible to omit the printer prefix? I only have one printer and I know its name! That would avoid editing it every time before I save the geo-code. The Creality Ender 3 V2 (and I think most printers?) displays so few characters anyway that it's already hard to select the wanted file name. This seven character prefix just makes it almost impossible.
  14. Thanks, much appreciate your response. But disappointed all my setting were not automatically backed up or preserved. Terry
  15. Couple of months since I last fired up my Ender 3 Pro and tried to slice in Cura. But dismayed to get message that something had gone wrong. (Duly sent report 30 mins ago.) Took the 'backup and reset option' but had to specify printer and so assume I've now lost all my settings? Is there some way to recover them please? The good news is that I am now printing from Cura's output. However I got a message about 4.11.1 which I've downloaded. When I install that will I get offered an opportunity to restore my settings please? Terry
  16. Before seeing this thread I posted that I've just downloaded 4.10 (file Ultimaker_Cura-4.10.0-amd64.exe, 196,987 KB) but it won't execute.
  17. Just downloaded Ultimaker_Cura-4.10.0-amd64.exe but it does not execute.
  18. Duh, thanks nallath. I'd been playing with two of those for an hour or two and would have sworn something got changed, but clearly not!
  19. Thanks. So do the italics indicate an actual printer? And the others are redundant? And the settings I defined in them (the other three) should really have been exported as profiles?
  20. I added these four 'printers' after buying my Ender 3 V2, as there wasn't a V2 in Cura's list (still isn't). My intention was to change the profile experimentally for each. Was that the right approach? Or should there only be a SINGLE entry, matching my single physical printer? That might explain why the first is the only one to give access to Machine Settings? (And also the only one in italics?) But if so, why would Cura allow me to add these 'virtual' printers?
  21. Thanks, understood. But two successive failures at what seems the same place/time seems fairly conclusive to me! So don't want to risk trying another print. As you saw, I have now already finished the project so after the 3d Builder fix. Took a total of about 3 hours for the two parts. And about 5 hours of research and experiment!
  22. What is a UM printer? Anyone else tried the original file in 4.9.1, to eliminate version as a cause?
