Does the bed leveling process create a Z distance to the toolhead tip refrence point.

If I make mods to the tool that change it dimensionally through the Z axis I suppose the bed could smak the toolhead.

So how does the machine know where to stop for the first layer.

When you make a change f.e. put in a different nozzle, you always have to do the bed leveling procedure and the machine knows the correct hight again...

If you move it too fan you might need to change the places of the limit switch or microswitch etc.. If you change it buy a little just go to the leveling process again!!

On the UMO, yes, possibly. But not on the UM2/UM2+. The position of the z-limit switch is and should remain fixed on those.

If he moves it too far leveling will be hard, you will need longer springs.Though you can change the offset and some settings in the software.

Thanks for the replies. I forgot to mention the machine. It's the Ultimaker 2+ extended.

I added a dual extrusion kit and their firmware upgrade inverted feeder 1 stepper motor.

While waiting for their support team to respond I was hoping to reinstall the default firmware and be able to print with nozzle 1.

So if the bed leveling process creates a reference point for plate to nozzle distance then the material thickness your leveling with such as paper(.004) or the ultimaker card(.006) will have an impact on the first layer. Is this correct?

That depends if your how low your nozzle is.

    Correct.

@Kevparang, I'm not quite sure what you mean. The bed levelling procedure makes sure that the nozzle is at the correct distance from the glass, that's the whole purpose of it.

@IRobertI you are correct, but I meant their is some user error with the paper.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
