I would sign up for an unsupported core....
I completely understand. But that is currently not the view of Ultimaker, as Ultimaker does not want to offer something until it is a finished solution.
I cannot say anything about which cores will come when, as I've seen 3 different timelines already and I'm most likely not allowed to talk about any of them ;-)

Probably not your intention, but your remark adds to the uncertainty, as I feel this is an "in the eye of the beholder" type of comment.
Anyone from Ultimaker care to provide clarity about expected availability dates for the new cores?

There are plans to release new cores for different sizes and materials next year (heh ofc) but the vision UM has with the cores isn't just to offer a different nozzle size but the whole package of settings. So if they add new cores they want to make all working in the UM3 ecosystem (machine, materials and cura) so the experience is good and not a sea of problems. And in the moment you add a different size core you need to make it all work with all the combinations. So seems easy but isn't.
Ofc third parties will make cores with nozzles but that won't have Cura settings ready to click/print and since the firmware is signed by UM they won't have the easy insert/use as the UM cores.
Ofc ofc they will release the open source of all (afaik) so anyone could design cores or make signed firmwares (I hope). But that takes time.
Using just a different nozzle size is easy but making all work in every combination, controlling drip so the print reliability stays high, that's a totally different game.

I do love the reliability of using the new profiles with the UM3. On the other hand I would love to be able to print some super detailed stuff (or some super fast stuff) on the UM3 even if I had to profile it myself. I guess it is difficult to sell something on one hand that is bullet proof and then also have an offering for a component that is buy but understand it is on you if you have issues? I would sign up for an unsupported core....
