Colorfabb Steelfill

Hello everyone, my Terminator T800 head failed after 20 hours which is not cool. Apparently the Colorfabb steelfill filament snapped before the feeder. Is there something to do to prevent this to happen again? Thanks

Maybe it snapped due a filament tangle. Is sad but it can happen. There's no way (on any filament maker) to avoid that filament can tangle at some point. Is a 1/20 stuff so is just really bad luck. I think some users for critical print take the filament amount that they will use and leave it unspooled, but that also can tangle. Other leave the spool on the floor on a lazy susan.

Thank you neotko, I think you are right.

The spool holder of the Ultimaker put an unnecessary pressure to the filament and the steelfill is already very fragile.

Anyone got any good settings on steelfill? I printed some parts, but they crumble like cream crackers when you apply a little pressure on them.

Yes it's quite easy to destroy, i think it needs more walls or at least a dense infill in order to be stronger

yes, I'm using S3D though.

flow = 105%

retraction = default (4,5mm & 25mm/s)

layer = 0,25mm

heated bed = 50 C°

print temp = 210 C°

cooling = 50%

print speed = 50 mm/s

travel speed = 200 mm/s

Those settings gave me this result :

I had a another awesome print with steelfill but it got broken during post processing

It's a pretty amazing filament but it's also pretty expensive to play around with.
