Wire for heated bed thermistor

Posted · Wire for heated bed thermistor

I finally have all the parts I need to put together my heated bed!

One thing that bothers me is that the wire for the thermistor is going to be right under the heated bed. Is there any special type of wire that needs to be used so that the insulation doesn't melt? Would 2 strands out of a cat 5 cable be ok?

Probably be fine but kapton tape can handle the heat no problem (I think it can handle 600C maybe) so you could unwind your twisted pair where it will be touching the heated bed and use kapton tape to keep the two strands from touching. That way if the insulation ever melts it won't mater.

I would actually strip the insulation from the wires that will be directly under the heating elements and use the kapton tape on them to act as the insulator.

Either way should work fine, I would just do it so that you don't get the additional "smoking plastic smell" on top of the plastic that you are already melting.

Best of luck with the heated bed! They are awesome!
