Cura 2.5 very slow with Ultimaker 3?

I've had pretty decent luck with Cura 2.5 on my Ultimaker 2+ and am trying it out on the Ultimaker 3 now.

One think I am noticing is just going between the tabs for the nozzles, I get long pauses of "not responding" and some really, really slow performance within Cura. Is this related to the networking to the printer?

I haven't seen pauses and hangs like this with the UM2+ and this laptop is pretty fast.

Anything I can do to remedy this?

If it is Ethernet or Wifi connected?

If its WiFi, you could do a test to see the signal strength and quality at the printer. Wifi Analyzer for Android works pretty good for this. It will show you the signal strength in dB and if there are overlapping Wifi signals that might be interfering. There might be a similar app for iOS.

    Just a thought.

    It's wifi

I am also using the default, "Recommended" settings to print the Seahorse with PLA and PVA Both attempts, the print head knocks over the print.

Thus far, I'm still waiting for the fun to begin

I have done no 'net' printing. I am weird that way. I just prefer an air-gapped unit. Just as a variance, try to print directly from the USB drive via sneakernet. This may give you an idea of how fast or expose issues.

I have no experience though with other printers, so take my advice with two aspirins and call the doctor in the morning for the headaches that I may cause :p

Just to squash this hunch: there is no specific traffic between the printer and Cura when switching tabs or when setting materials or printcores. Slowdowns there are just on Cura.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
