4mm lead screw against the original one

Hi,

I've just replaced my Z axis lead screw with a new 4mm pitch one, now I'm trying to print but my print table travel has the half stroke ! I know I should reconfigure the "configuration.h" file but HOW !??

lol. Well a quick hack is to scale up your models in 2X in the Z direction only (cura can do this if you unlock the axis) and then set flow to 50%.

What kind of printer do you have?

Basically you need to change steps/mm and double that value. If you have UM2 you can get tinkermarlin and adjust it right from the front panel.

First tell me your printer (it's okay if it's a prusa) and then I can tell you more details of how to build Mariln.

If you have a UMO with a LCD controller (ulticontroller) you can likely change the steps/mm for the z-axis to half its current value directly on the machine and store the new value in memory.

If not you have to configure and build a new marlin and upload it to your board ... Take care with this operation, as the one that is on the machine currently will be forever lost and your new build may have various settings that deviate from the ones you currently have.

There's no need to build a new firmware. The steps/mm are stored in EEPROM anyway. Basically follow the instruction in this old post and double the value for the z-axis (or better: to the correct value according to the pitch of the lead screw... ). You would have to repeat these steps after a factory reset, but how often do one do that?
