Cura 3.1

I just had something very weird happen.

I have 4 STL files which contain some smaller text objects, amongst others. Earlier today, I imported the 4 STL files into Cura and placed them on the print bed. I saved out the gcode and fed it to my U2. (I did not save the Cura project... only the gcode).

The prints have been going fine. Then later, I noticed that the small text was missing from the prints. I thought I had forgotten to include those objects when I exported the STL files out of 3DS MAX. I went and checked the STL files by opening each one in Cura and each one contains the small text.

Does Cura or the saving of gcode omit objects? If so, based on what?

    If your Detail levels are less than the height of the layering, it will not pick it up.

    If your Detail levels are less than the width of the nozzle, it will most likely drop it.

    It is basically a sampling of the  object based on those two conditions.

    Try to use the Nyquist frequency as a guide:

    In general terms,

    R = result

    S = sampling rate

    O = object detail

    S*O = 1/2R

    In printing terms (2D printing) it would be something like this:

    S * Object Detail = 300 PPI (Pixles Per Inch) of image scan

    Result  = 150 DPI (Dots Per Inch in printing) of printed detail quality.

    Thanks very much for this info! Makes sense.

    I measured the size of the small text and it is being dropped because the width of the characters is less than the nozzle width. Hadn't run into this problem before but I guess I had never crossed the size boundary before.
