How to set the material print order?

I have one part that consists of two materials. How can I select (force) which material is being printed first?

As far as I know you cannot select the order, but extruder 1 is used first if you use both materials on the same layer. The next layer should then start with extruder 2 to avoid a useless head switch.

I would have said that an UM3/S5 starts with the support material in extruder 2 on the first layer...

My experience is the same as with @Smithy, but it probably depends on what material is selected for printing the brim or skirt.
