Posted · Would like to control access only by specified colleagues, what can we do?

We are in an office about 50 people in 6 teams, we got an Ultimaker S5.

We would like to control who can operate the machine, while allowing junior to work on Cura for Slicing.

Also, would like to make sure prints wont be cancelled by other teams accidentally or not.

Are there any solution?

Unfortunately there is currently no way to control the access to the printer. As soon as the printer is connected to your network, anyone can connect and control the printer even without Cura.

User authentication is a planned and often requested feature so let's see when it will be implemented.

in the meantime you can print via USB and disconnect the printer from the network or if you have the possibilities, put the printer in a separated network segment and allow only dedicated user to connect to it.

Both not the best solutions but better than nothing.

Has there been any update to the implementation of the "User Authentication" feature? Browsing through forums, this feature has been requested by users for years now. Is there an expected timeline? We would really like access control so we can network the printer at my company.

You can easily achieve this with a S-line or 2+ Connect printer, the Digital Factory and an Ultimaker software plan like Ultimaker Essentials. Essentials comes with every new Ultimaker printer. If you already have an Ultimaker printer and don't need another one in forseeable future, please get in contact with your reseller for a seperate Essential license.

You then can share a printer among individually selected people (teams) or with your whole organization, i.e. everyone you invite to sign up for a (free) Ultimaker account and to belong to your organization. On the S-line printer you can enable the firewall which restricts access to only Digital Factory access and disables direct network access.

Here you @jkal Not sure what printer you have but there is quite a robust ecosystem for Ultimaker printers.
