please Ultimaker firmware guys,  please give us this back!

The nice thing about it is it stored its own offset data for each build plate...

This means when using a 3rd party build plate- be it a spring steel, Gardoplate, PEI  or whatever, it kept the data,  and one could swap back to glass without any need to manually calibrate again.  I have been using an spring steel PEI sheet from aliexpress  for 2 months, and love it compared to glass.-  why you guys don't offer something similar I don't understand.

The fact that the firmware  functionality was already there, and then it was removed, was just rubbing salt in the wound, after having to buy a 3rd party build-plate to begin with!   I know Ultimaker are no longer planning a alternative build plate,  but there ARE other options around, and at least give your customers the option to use them easily.  you owe them that much surely- especially when you have already done the work.

Hi  Jason,

Thanks for your feedback! I think we learn something new all the time about usage into the printers. I think it wouldn't be an impossible task to restore the functionality. The use case you've mentioned is outside something that we would normally consider however, but its always great to see how people are using these printers.

I'll go ahead and poke around and see what can be done in terms of restoring this functionality. As always, the more demand the better it is to get priority on something, so if more likely it is to get picked up sooner rather than later!

    Thanks for responding.

it would probable be the same currently when going from bare glass to adhesion sheets? One would need to re calibrate with the paper card again?
being able to store the different bed type would save having to recalibrate each time.  So it would be support ultimaker beds, not just 3rd part bed surfaces

Another explanation is that it changes more. It did also change the PID settings for heating the buildplate (5 to 10 degrees constantly off target depending on whether it's heating or constant) which won't help you if you don't know about it but yeah it would solve some issues. But just bringing it back as is sounds not great either IMHO.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
