simon 1 Posted December 22, 2013 in Cura Slicing Error Hi Daid, I have been trying to slice this part, but Cura doesn't support the overhang properly in this instance. Also the brim is starting from the projected edge of the part. Do you need to see the file or do you already know what is causing this? Or is it something I have done? Thanks Simon
illuminarti 16 Posted December 22, 2013 in Cura Slicing Error I know the Brim offset issue has been discussed on here before. I'm not sure that I immediately see what's wrong with the generated support, however?
gr5 896 Posted December 23, 2013 in Cura Slicing Error Thinking of the part like the front of a bus - it's supporting great in the wheel wells, but not under the front bumper.
illuminarti 16 Posted December 23, 2013 in Cura Slicing Error Ah, ok, yeah, I see it now - I was looking over on the left side. Totally missed the annotation on the model view.
3dcase 37 Posted December 23, 2013 in Cura Slicing Error Hi, I remembered seeing something alike, do not know wich cura version Simon is using?. I see a part of a 2 in the screenshots, so I guess a newer version. Reading, Daid wants to see images and examples... This is what I found, printing a 1:160 model train. Notice the brim in the front part. 1st solid view 2nd An 'older' version 13.10 this is what Simon wants to see, and you might suspect.. 3rd Newest 13.12test. (13.11.2 gave same brim) Like Simon's screenprint.. All examples using same settings..
Daid 258 Posted December 23, 2013 in Cura Slicing Error Yes, I'm aware of the problem (combination of support and brim giving issues like this). I have not looked into the cause yet.
simon 1 Posted December 23, 2013 in Cura Slicing Error Yep, latest version of cura. Interesting that 13.10 does it correctly. Can I use 13.10 with the latest firmware. Are there any health warning with 13.10. And lastly can I use both versions side by side on the same computer (PC)?

Í have 5 versions installed at the moment, you might want to walk through the settings if you import settings from a gcode sliced in another version. And you miss some updates, but hard to tell what and which.

Side-by-side installs are supported on Cura (with Windows&Linux, on Mac it can give weird issues) It was actually a design choice to support this I made very early on. I do not want to force people to only use the latest version. Which is why also all the old versions are available for download. You won't have the brim issue with 13.10 because 13.10 does not account for the support material with the brim.
