Ultimaker Cura Shutting down during print

Been using Cura 4.71 with Anycubic Chiron for some time with success!  Took some time to get the best setup.  Now I am experiencing Cura shutdowns on long print jobs.  I had my first 21 Hr print job and found the printer stopped half way through the build?  Thought this may be a problem with something re did .stl file then tried again and the same issue:

 

Looks like Ultimaker had closed on my PC, at least when I turned off the printer and observed the PC I did not see the Cura file open?  I have com port settings so port will not shut down -- sleep.   PC is also set properly so power settings do not stop PC.  All long print jobs end in this manner? The printer had no error codes and appears fine.

 

One thing, did some changes in settings to improve print and noticed with higher quality the jobs run much longer--normal.

Definitely, Windows 10 is shutting down Cura?  It happened again where print had stopped and Ultimaker Cura was not open on PC?  Something Is going on where Windows 10 is closing Cura?

I cannot say what happens in your specific situation, but it is generally not recommended to print via USB, it is just not reliable as you see. And the USB implementation in Cura is old and not supported anymore.

 

So just use the SD card or USB stick or whatever your printer supports and you will be much more happy.

USB printing seems attractive.  Then Microsoft pushes a Windows update at 3:00AM and the PC restarts.  When that happens the USB 5 volt signal is lost at the printer (along with the gcode data feed) and of course printing stops.  When the PC comes back to life - the 5 volt USB signal comes back on and that causes an External Reset of the printer so it reboots (which is not the same as a recoverable power loss).  At that point all is lost.

Removing the PC from the network while printing (or disabling automatic Windows updates) can SOMETIMES fix the problem.  There is still the M105 issue.  Pronterface suffers from that one as well.

 

I wrote a Windows app to completely control the printer.  I can pick which file on the SD card to print.  If it's an over-night print then I have to disable the network on the PC or the same problem occurs (printer reboot due to Windows update) even though the printer is printing from the SD card.

 

If you have your heart set on printing remotely then a RaspPI with Octoprint may be the best choice.
