Posted · Play on printhead S5

I have a very recent Ultimaker S5.  I'm not very happy with the results of the prints because there are a lot of horizontal lines on the prints, in the Y-axis.

After lot's of prints and different materials and settings, I compared my S5 with another.. conclusion there is a lot of "play" between the print-head and the Y axis bar.

Some further examination learned me that the plastic of the print-head is too wide (or the linear bearing is too small, but that is almost impossible).

It's also almost impossible that I have the only S5 with this problem.... What's the solution?

I'd contact your reseller.  Explain how your S5 head wobbles much more than another S5.

That bearing is quite short so it's easier to have problems like this.  Also on the UM3 and S3.  The UM2 never had this problem as the bearings are much longer.  I know someone with a UM3 who had this problem and he fixed it with some kind of cylindrical shim.  But I think there are better ways to fix your issue - maybe a new bearing or maybe a replacement plastic part for the head.

I had the same issue with play in the print head. I took the print head apart and made 2 foil shims between the bearing and the plastic housing. The play is gone although I have no data for you on how this will hold up over time.
