Wierd problem that's been bugging me all afternoon: our new UM2+ Connect is showing a persistent error (picture attached) where, after selecting a print, it homes and displays:
''An error has occured while reading the print file. Please reslice your print.''

Well, I tried reslicing. Didn't work. Same error.

I tried updating Cura to 4.9.1 (coming from 4.9.0). Didn't work.

Tried exporting in .GCode or .3MF instead of .UPF. Didn't work.

Tried a different file, a simple Benchy. Didn't work.

Tried a different laptop with a fresh 4.9.1 install. Didn't work.

Tried a different USB stick, then another, then the one that came with the machine. Didn't work.

In my past four years working with Ultimakers I haven't really had an issue I couldn't solve or at least troubleshoot myself (or with some helpful colleagues), but this one has me stumped.

Any ideas what this could be?

Sorry to hear you have some troubles.

Two days ago there was another user with the same problem, but without a solution yet. Can you double check you have selected and configured the correct printer in Cura, just to be sure.

Can you upload a sliced file here, then I can cross check if I am able to load it into my printer.

I double, triple, quadruple checked that I selected the UM2+ Connect. I even downloaded 4.9.0 when we received the three new Ultimakers, because I was still on 4.7.0 (?) which wouldn't show the Connect models. We have UM2 w/ Olsson Blocks, UM2+'s and now these three Connects and a UM3, so I'm always careful with selecting the right printer and print profile.

I have attached a .UFP, .GCode and .3MF I tried to print this afternoon. They appeared to start on my number 1 and 2 UM2C, but not on number 3.

Ok was not aware you have three of them and already checked if it is the file or the printer. So just one has the problem with the sliced file?

In that case you can only try if a factory reset helps, but I don't think it will solve the problem. But try it anyway.
If it is still not working you can only contact your reseller.

My school district was given an Ultimaker 2+ Connect a few years ago (by Ultimaker I believe) but to my knowledge nobody has ever been able to get it running. I have gotten further than anyone else because I've been printing for a few years now albeit on an Ender 5. I can't get it printing though because of this same error. I don't see an actual solution in this thread so I'm wondering it was ever resolved.

@Torgeir is this "error reading file" problem something you can help with?

You could also contact UltiMaker support and see if they can help you. Official support is not offered via the forums, so that's how you get in touch with the powers that be 🙂

    Hi there,

well, there are two printers that's different -somehow, UM3 and UM2+ Connect.

Both of them have it's own "special" log files "we" knows very little about.

However, what about telling us a little more about the problem?

Some hint here might help, what does seems to work, can you access the menus, etc.?

Here's the thing UM likes you to do, I'll suppose..

    UM2+ Connect

For the original topic starter, he had three UM2+ Connect printers and from what I understand, only one of them had this problem. This suggests a problem with this printer.

The error is shown for three slightly different problems, which makes it difficult to diagnose without further info. The detailed info can be found in the log files, see the above linked procedure for how to write the log files to USB.

The error is thrown when the printer fails to copy the file from USB to internal memory. Most likely reasons:

    1. The printer has an old firmware version with a bug. Update to the latest release (most recent is v1.5.3).
    2. The printer stores the print jobs on a micro SD card, which is not used for any other important data. Perhaps this micro SD card is corrupt or missing? See https://ultimaker.com/ER214 for how to access the micro SD card.
A missing SD card should trigger a specific error screen, but perhaps the card is present and has other problems. You can test by taking a random micro SD card, the printer will automatically erase this card and format to the required layout.
Note that the SD card is not easy to remove. Sorry. The Onion computer module (the purple pcb) is not soldered on the carrier board. What I always do, I lift the purple pcb half a centimeter from its connector to get easier to the SD card connector on the underside. Don't lift the Onion pcb more than this half a centimeter, or the pins in the pcb-connector will get bend.

The SD card is locked in the connector. Do not pull !! With a small push it will unlock and pop out.
