I find Cura runs slower the longer the session has been running. Again on high spec machines.

I do have mapped network drives! I'll check this out and report back.

To follow up: This must be exactly it! I'm opening Cura "as administrator" now, and it seems to be working fine. Thank you!

I cannot say what's the problem with your installation, but I can say that it is not normal.
Maybe some additional software on your computer, like antivirus or something like that?
