Queue print but don't auto-start

I am one of the staff running Fab Lab Wgtn in Wellington, New Zealand as part of the Massey University School of Design, A killer feature for us would be a way to allow students to enqueue prints in Digital Factory (and have the available materials from the materials bay show in their Cura interface) but to not have those prints automatically start until 'released' by a staff member (We have hundreds of students but only 3 x S5 Pro bundles so far).

Hey there. Thanks for the suggestion!

We hear this more often and we're thinking of a way to support it. Stay tuned!

I just quote myself from https://community.ultimaker.com/topic/38519-pause-print-queue/#comment-297968

I don't know the settings of a S5 and user/admin control. For our U3 everybody could change it around, but the workaround could still work for you.

What we are doing for years is to insert a breakpoint into our queue.

The breakpoint is just a sliced part with for us unreasonable printcore/material settings.

One the first core it wants a AA 0.25 with Black Nylon, on the other a BB 0.8  with transparent Nylon. We have none of the printcores or materials, so it won't be printed. On top, the printer will give a warning if you load nylon into a BB 0.8 core.

Like I said, we are using it for years like this, works perfectly.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
