Posted · How to get rid of visible lines on bottom of print

I’m very new to 3D printing, and bought an Ender 3V2 to start printing polymer clay cutters for my small business. I’m starting to figure out settings, but am having trouble eliminating the very visible lines on the bottom of my cutters.  I’ve attached a photo of what many of the other cutters I’ve purchased look like on the bottom and what mine have been printing like, and am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to smooth out the bottoms, thanks!

I currently use esun pla + filament, as well as Tinkercad and Ultimaker Cura for modeling/printing software.

    Hey @agraves,

Welcome to the Ultimaker Community 🎉

    What a super cool application.

Looking at the white printjob two things come to mind.
It's either 3D printed using a different technique like Binder Jetting.

OR they use FFF 3D printing but they have a different buildplate than you do.

If you want a unique look to your initial layer you can also consider 3D printing on Holographic sheets.
    Final Prints!

If you end up trying this technique, let me know! It's one I really want to try 🤩

I also print cutters and know exactly what you are experiencing. It is the build plate you are using. I was using an Ender PTEG magnetic flexible build plate which has texture but you could still see the lines.  I now use ANYCubic magnetic flexible metal build plates and lower my z axis just a touch more so it really imbeds the first layer into the texture.  Doing so I do go through hot ends faster but I don't have any lifting off the build plate ever and I have this wonderful texture instead of lines.

You could also post-process the cutters with sandpaper if you just want a smooth finish, in case you don't want to buy a new buildplate. A flat surface like that should be easy to make smooth really fast.
