Just installed my Material Station - Now I've got the Pro setup at home.   Had one at work before I retired and now that I'm running the material station at home I'm reminded of something that always bugged me..

Every time you start a new print, a LOT of material gets extruded before it proceeds only to be left in strings under the build surface.

Does anyone know if it can be reduced?  Seems like a lot more than necessary.

I have the same remark; unfortunately haven't found a way to disable or adjust it. I think it's just the way thing are with the material station installed.

The amount is dependent on the previous material used. If a printjob is with the same material, there will be smaller amount of purging than when the printjob is with a different  material.

Purging is needed to make sure all of the previous material is flushed out, so that also when you change from black to white filament, you get a nice white part without a gray bottom.

Well that was a waste of a pretty good explanation... but didn't answer the question..

I gather that there's no way for a user to reduce it.

No, it is not recommended to try and adjust the amount and no it cant be disabled.
Issues loading and unloading of material my occur such has jamming of the print core or broken material in the material station pathways. As well as possibly undesirable color/material transitions at the starts of prints.
