Could someone explain why cura doesn't print the blue outline I want it to print, in this instance it misses out the bottom and doesn't print the bevel?  Many thanks

Your model is on the left and the polka-dot surfaces indicate errors.  The model on the right was repaired (MS 3D Builder).

 

The model with the errors doesn't start to print until the tenth layer.

 

This view shows that the floors of the pockets aren't flat and level.

Thanks for that, so the cause for the problems is just the bottom layers not being even?

Not just that.  There is a flaw in the model that is causing Cura to ignore the lower layers.

That's a fair number of errors in a small non-organically shaped model.  It's the "duplicate" and "inverted" faces that are causing the problem.  The non-manifold edges aren't helping.

Maybe a bit your skills problem (if there are naked edges and holes), but also a "Blender isn't great at outputting models for 3D printing" thing. I'm not saying don't use it, just that it's a lot easier to convert your average CAD file to an STL model than a mesh like Blender uses.

 

If you're using Windows, the Microsoft "3D Builder" program is actually really great at fixing broken models. It can't perform miracles, but if I import something into Cura and get errors then I get 3D Builder to fix it, when I load it in Cura again, no issues.
