New UM2 will not print directly from Cura (14.09) - UM2 not recognized as connected

This a pretty strange issue, although I'd guess its easily solved. Despite being plugged in to my computer (exactly like my old UM1), Cura refuses to recognize that the UM2 is plugged in when I attempt to print. The only option it gives me is "Save to Toolpath." It will, however, let me install default firmware to the UM2, so it is communicating with it. I messed around with the "Communication Settings" in Cura, but no combination seemed to work (both on "Auto" now). Any ideas on this one?

Printing over USB is not a supported option for the Ultimaker². I'm not sure if Cura deliberately prevents you from trying to do it... if you really want to, you try using Pronterface or another printer control program to submit the gcode. However, you'll need to make sure that you have Cura set up to make regular Marlin gcode, not Ultigcode - as the latter makes assumptions that are only honored when printing from SD card.

And printing over USB is slower and less reliable than working from the SD card, so I recommend that you just use the SD card.

It used to work (even though not officially supported). I wouldn't be surprised if the feature was removed recently. There's just too many problems associated with USB printing. Anyway you could try an older version of Cura but I recommend printrun/pronterface (it's free). Or octoprint on a rasberry pi and you now have a network printer.

I didn't remove it. It's just the same as it's always been. UltiGCode forces Cura into "SD only" mode. To prevent problems with USB printing. If you set the "GCode flavor" to "RepRap (Marlin)" then you can print trough USB with the UM2. But, you might run into stability problems.

Note, seeing how many problems we had with the UMO on USB printing, and seeing the volume in which the UM2 is being sold. I'm very happy that we decided to do this. (And yes, it's not ideal, I know)
