  1. I found the design for the cooling duct and printed it pla as it was loaded on the machine do you think I waisted my time heat wise
  2. Hi thanks for the reply I didn't like to just pull it but I eventually did turning power off first. I managed to unblock the nozzle, if it was blocked at all there was no black gunk I heated the nozzle up to 200 and gently advanced the material. A very watery pla came out then proper extruded pla with bits of black in it. I carried on advancing the material slowly then stopped. I wonder what exactly happened I remember setting a print going and was listening to it the d Feeder mechanism was making a loud clicking do you think the feeder was pushing and because nothing was being outputted the feeder was stuck.
  3. had started to print today first print went well then suddenly stringing and then nothing I heard a loud clicking from the feeder by then nothing was being extruded. by now the filament had ground down I cleared the grounding and heated the nozzle to 200 and tried advancing material Nothing I extracted the pal cleaned it up re loaded and tried advancing material through nozzle. Nothing. I take it the nozzle is blocked I did some searching and found iRoberts needles but they are not available now. what spec do I need for needles, I am reluctant to disassemble the print head it is difficult for me to work on. I d also like to advance the print head to the front of the machine but can't find how if at all it will do it, so I can work on the head better.. any suggestions on how to get the block out. ????? Grrrrrr bob
  4. Hi I have three questions that need help with. 1 I downloaded the latest version of cura and along with it the latest Firware upgrade for um2. Do I need to re do the bed levelling procedure before I print. I have kept the old v of cura in another location. 2 the tweak at z there is 2 input fields where you can change the temp / speed one is with height which would be awkward for me or there is layer number? Now is this the slider on the right where you view layers is this the layer number. 3 and last I have read some post about the efficiency of the fans and in some cases people have printed there own cowlings https://www.youmagine.com/designs/fanduct-another-idea#!design-documents Do these represent a significant advantage especially when printing with overhangs Thanks Bob
  5. Hi all thanks for the input so far Nicolinux Yes you are right about the orientation and had thought of your suggestion but the amount of support material pushed the print up to 10hrs so wasn't keen on that but if it has to be it has to be.. Thanks Dim3nsioneer Your thoughts were very interesting I printed this at 180 and at around 30 mm/s I thought the 1 couple of layers aren't hot enough I have never used the tweak at a in it it ask for a height or a layer does the bar on the right give me the accurate layer number to enter if not how do you find the layer height. Nick Foley The support is only holding what you can see I left it in so I could get a good representation of what I need to measure internally to make sure other components fit. Thanks for your input guys it is appreciated...
  6. I have been working on this extrusion for weeks and purchased the ultimaker purposely to print this but I can see problems over the hill. I orientated to the bed so I could get accurate internal measurements (minimal overhang) As you can see the supports are all the way to top but on the finished item this would be the finished surface I think tit would take a lot to clean and don't want to go down the road of Acetone misting or derivative for PLA can anyone suggest a better way to orientate this but in the finished item there will be channels running through the extrusion hears a pic of the internals at moment this was printed .20 resolution speed 40 took 5 hrs I printed slowly I wanted to get a good finish which I thought I got. would be better at .10 but the time goes through the roof.. is mesh maker an option would I benefit from it…. ADVISE Welocomed
  7. Ok Just tried this and see the settings change then crashed but thanks for replying
  8. Mmmm I'm barking up the wrong tree but when I have used this cura stops responding, and yes this is gcode cura processed Thanks for the replies
  9. Sorry for so long in updating my question I have just tried the command Fileload profile from gcode I thought this would import the gcode and produce the model by it as in my first post in Cnc. World this would be called a BACKPLOT But when I select it and then a g code file cura freezes then I have to close cura down and re start. Am I barking up the wrong tree with this is it not a BACKPLOT . Thanks Bob
  10. There's a command in cura that I thought was like a back plot whee you could see the results of the code in cura. when I do this nothing happens, can anybody tell me what this command is for. Also when I import my stl file into cura the model does not come up onto the bed, only when I hit layers does it show.. Is this a bug.
  11. Thanks for that I use Solid Works and will try your suggestions iRobert a wall thickness of 0.5 offset from the part by 0.15 and try that Again thanks to you both for answering Bob
  12. Has anyone designed a part to print in Solid Works how would you specify a wall that is a support for the print . My next print is quiet large and it would be better to design supports into the design. I have seen mesh maker but don't want to learn another package.
  13. Gr5 Thanks for the advise it is appreciated (believe me) I will think on your reply and practise with the next set of prints (on another subject) thank you. Bob
  14. Ok another attempt and the last. I re sampled the Robot Basic Settings Cura layer ht .2 shell thickness 1.2 retract yes botm top thickness 1.0 fill 60% print speed 30 support none platform adhesion brim Advanced Settings init layer 0.3 cut obj no dual extrude 0 travel speed 30 botom layer spd 20 infix speed 20 outer shell 20 inner shell 20 cool layer time 5 fans on Temp in Fine tune was 190.00 bed 60 (I listened) these are what I set in cura and presume what is set in gcode?? question where does speed in fine tune come into play?? I set this to 50% and when got to belly still thought it was fast and reduced it down to 40 is this 40% of the time set in dura which was 30 ?? (help) is there a way of setting the temp (190) into the programme so it runs 1 programme at one temp and another at ?? the pics show a little stringing but Im pleased enough to carry on with what I purchased the machine for and when I spot overhang I'll know reduce speed and watch the temp.. Bob
  15. Thanks for the replies but I have to say to nallath I am NOT blaming the machine. If you take that view I Am sorry, BUT the machine was sent with a sample file and in a naive way I thought the machine should print it!, and then I find not only does it NOT print it you then have to adjust the default temp for PLA from 210 to anywhere from 190 upwards. I purchased the machine because I want to print experimental parts for a charity and while I know there is a learning curve it doesn't help when the machine is delivered with trapped limit switches and missing bed screws... Come on £2000.00 you expect better. I Robert thank you for your feedback and I will certainly try your constructive and informative suggestions And I understand why gr5 printed two robots that's cool. Could I ask you two questions does the colour of the PLA play an important part in the quality if so could you suggest a stable colour to use. I am not a robot freak and personally don't want any more the point of doing this was to understand then adapt future prints. Your feeder mechanism was impressive but when I printed one of you parts see above the recess for the 3mm lock nut failed and this is what ultimately led me to print the dam robot file to get a stable print process. The print for the body worked well and the result was nice and clean my problems are overhang . And I guess this is what I need to learn. It has sunk in temp/speed are paramount. Thanks Bob
  16. G5 I have tried to send you an update but for some reason these are not getting published
  17. You have a steep learning curve I'm afraid and you probably picked the worse of the files to print I am in the same boat as you only getting the filament to extrude is the first issue and yes it has probably ground a grove in the material I'd get use to that little issue. I'd check it and as long as you've done a decent half job of setting the height of the plate with paper .15 thick is what I used you should get some sort of result. But the robot has issues see my first results
  18. G5 I replied to you with pics I take it these have been lost by moderator
  19. G5 I tried lowering the temp 195 speed 96 material flow100 same pal Gold Ultimakers front was slight improvement but the back is dreadful. this file I used was the default that came with the machine. any help appreciated it has been suggested by the retailer I change PLA to a different colour I noted he didn't offer to exchange. but thats just more expense
  20. G 5 thanks for the advise wow 190 ...?? Will try that. The fans are on. The bottom of the the robot on my print is quite good and will post a picture later today. Again thank you for replying what make of pla are you using in the robot
  21. Ok sorry this is my mistake the temp setting is default I think that's 210 and for abs 250 I will check these later I like the picture of your Robot it would be good to know how you got that
  22. hi Sorry for that hear we go Layer Ht .10 Shell Thickness 1.00 Retraction Enabled Fill Density 60% Bot Top Thickness 1.0 Print speed 50 Support Everywhere Platform Type Brim Nozzle size 0.4 init layer 0.3 Cut off obj Btm NO Dual ext overlap 0.15 (this was in mabe I should set to 0 ?? ) Travel sod 50 btm layer spd 20 infill spd 20 inner shell spd 20 cool layer time 5 fans On Bed temp was set to 75 Nozle temp 250 (as default for PLA) hope this helps Bob
  23. Hi, I am new to 3d printing not a total idiot but after 2 weeks of messing about with the Ultimaker 2 I need some advise where I am going wrong if at all (limits of the printer). My ultimaker 2 arrived and without me knowing it the limit switch on the z had been jammed shut with a wire this caused a lot of aggravation then the fun started material bringing in the feeder ect., I was using ABS and could not get any decent finishes so I went to PLA and still can't get a decent finish even though it starts off fine. I calibrated the bed I print at speed 50 with layer time at about 20 not fast at all but with any overhang at all it is not good even the Robot comes out naff, I have hopefully uploaded this. also uploaded a pic of print of the design for the feeder mechanism from I Robert on the premise that it will cause me problems sooner or later so might swell try printing them. as you can see from the pic again this is messy while in other areas its fine. i purchased the ultimaker todo a specific job but doubt it will do it. I am using the latest firmware and the latest Cura which is being very unfriendly in the printing support areas i Roberts piece had supports turned on everywhere but did not do the 3mm lock nut area.. as you can see it Gold PLA which came with the machine. where I purchased the machine said it might be the colour thats causing me problems (I find that hard to believe YOUR THOUGHTS) p.s print quality .10 Can anyone help.before I take a hit and sell the machine...
