Ultimaker 3 - Print core installation missing information about "lock" mechanism?

That lifts the right core up and down.  Core needs to be up when printing with left core and down when printing with right core.

You want it in the "down" (rearward) position when loading and unloading.  I mean you don't have a choice: it must be in the down position.

What about when printing with both cores?

So far I've only been printing with printcore 1. The second core has only been in the unlocked lower position. Which is the opposite of recommended above, but there have been no issues.

You don’t need to do anything with the lever by hand. The printer operates the lever for you, no matter what core you print with.

Oh really? It felt lilke a manually controlled lever only to me. Good to know.

So just leave it in the lower position and the machine will control it for me?

Yes, just leave the lever alone. Or play with it (once or so) to see what it does; it does not lock anything, but moves the second core up (lever in front position) or down (lever in back position). Just remember to put it back to the original position where the printer expects it to be (though it should try to put it in that position at the start of the print).

On the right side of the gantry, there is a small "fork" that can grab the lever. When switching nozzles, the printer moves the lever into that fork and moves from front to back (or the other way around) to operate the lever.

When not printing it leaves it "unlocked" so you can swap cores without doing anything.  when it starts printing with the left core it "locks" it (aka moves the core up).  If you look at the printer when it's not printing the right core is always down.  If you look at it while printing with the left core the right core is always up.

When starting up a print you can leave the lever in either position and it will "correct" it.
