Well that's a bit silly forcing a Material-ID to just print. What use does the material change on the printer then? Silly stuff think there. Ofc yea Ultimaker is a eco-system, but this stuff only helps Cura, not the users. Griffin should be named Slyther.

It forces any id. Just like it forces that there should be actual g-codes in there. It needs those (especially for Cura Connect) to be able to figure out if it can be printed at all. This doesn't seem like that big of a deal if you always print whatever you slice right away, but with a queue (and especially with different configurations in your cluster) this suddenly becomes a thing.

So why do you always have to assume malice?

Well I'm a bad bad boy hahahaha

Dunno probably I didn't had coffee when I wrote that. Why a cluster is a problem for a material header check? I mean, if you launch it from cura, not cura connect, why the material is a gcode integrity check? After all, worst thing that can happen is the printer asking for confirmation for correct material. Wouldn't it be easier to design a Blank Material for example? One that could be used for any slicer other than Cura. Now that I think it out loud, that could be a nice feature. A 'Blank' material profile, one that can be used for 'other slicers'.

T'would be nice to have an override that the user could put in so that it just goes on and prints without worry. It does create a problem if your material is not readable by way of being in a drybox.

Mayhaps a way to select the proper material instead of being forced to choose 'generic'?

Or, maybe I will just start slapping old, empty spools with NFC tags on it to hoodwink the system.

The upside is that while it chokes on material selection, I am changing plates and applying my stick stuff to the plate. At least you can override it at the end of all that.

Which would totally defeat the purpose of having printers remote controllable in the first place ;)

Because then it doesn't matter how the machine gets the g-code. Through thumbdrive? It works! Through API? It works.

Well. It's not that hard for S3D either to get it working ;)

No indeed it's not. But they don't do as many updates as Cura, so the users will have this issue for a year easily. Ofc if they contact S3D support they might send them a changed profile etc. Anyhow, the only that will have troubles is the user.

Does the topic exist? I copied the link, used cut and paste and every other trick I could think of to get on it. Even switched browsers.....

Indeed it does but weird it doesn’t work linking it

This is what kills me: People expect tech to work absolutely all the time, but accept the most basic failings such as this as if deeper, more complex things such as graphics software should be 'easier' or less prone to failure.

Kinda like when Scotty disabled an entire starship with the removal of 5 bolts. The more complex things are, the more prone to breaking.

Well, if we find a way to get access, I would like to read it since it would provide an alternative viewpoint.

    an alternative viewpoint.

Viewpoints are always interesting indeed. But having the software that was working, working is also interesting for the users. Philosophy won't make the printer work, downgrading the firmware on the other side will until S3D or UM do something.

    I print...therefore I am.....I print......

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
