formatting SD cards

I can print any model with this memory card that came with my monoprice mini V2. But I can get another SD card to work with the same file. I formatted 2 new SD cards and neither work. They both are brand new cards. Is there something I have to install on the cards for the printer to find the file??   Thank you for any help

This is an ultimaker and cura forum.  We dont' know much about monoprice mini v2.  But if it's anything like an ultimaker you might want to make sure the SD card isn't too large or too small.  Try to buy one with the same size.  Also I don't recommend formatting them.  did you format them on a mac?  If so try formatting all over again on a PC.  They probably have to be in FAT32 format.  What format did you format them in?

I never formatted the SD cards I have bought in the past and they worked fine in my Ultimaker printers.

I formatted it in FAT32. But it is a 32gb card. The card that came with it is super small. Less than 1gb.I'm out of ideas.

I guess 32GB might be too big for small controllers in 3D-printers?

If you would have some knowledge about partitioning and formatting, you could try formatting the card as "floppy disk", or as "hard disk", and try both. There seems to be a difference. Or you could try partitioning it into a partition of only 4GB, and leave the rest unused. And then only format that 4GB partition in FAT32. But all this may take some trial and error, and it is not sure it will work. You will have to Google a bit.

I have only ever bought 4gb cards because that is what UM sells even though they cost a few dollars more I wanted to be safe.  Actually I just checked and one of them has 8gb and is formatted for 8gb FAT32 and it works (I didn't buy that one - it came for free when I bought a used um2go).

So I would try partitioning as geert_2 suggests but also ask other monoprice owners - there's a (tiny) possibility that they force you to buy SD cards only from them and have some secret file or something on the SD card that the monoprice expects.

What format is the SD card formatted with that works?

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
