Tap into Recommended View of Sidebar

I am interested in writing a plugin to change a couple of things in the recommended sidebar view to make them easier to use. Is it possible to add/replace elements of RecommendedPrintSetup? I saw the Cura-SidebarGUI plugin by @ahoeben which appears to rebuild a custom preview stage from scratch, which is more than I'd like to do.

As an example, I would like to replace the Adhesion check box with a drop down or slider to select brim, skirt, etc. 

Any tips/advice/examples to look at would be appreciated!

Unfortunately, the way @ahoeben did it is the only way to do it.

You don't have to rebuild the entire stage, but you do have to replace the entire "menu" component, which includes both the recommended and custom setting views.

 

        prepare_stage = self._controller.getStage("PrepareStage")
        prepare_stage.addDisplayComponent("menu", settings_view_component_path)

This unfortunately means that it is going to be hard to impossible to make your plugin work in tandem with the Sidebar plugin, because they both rely on replacing the setting view.
