Hi, Have had an S5 for about a week or 2 now and since day one its been making this high pitched whining sound coming from inside the machine. Sounds like how capacitor whine sounds in old video cards.

It's causing some people to be quite annoyed in the office.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately dimming the light between 0 and 100% makes no difference in the pitch or volume of the whine. Nor does raising or lowering the bed 😞

Often such a high frequency "whine" occur in the power supply, try to tilt the printer a little to one side, in order to hear if this whining is created under the printer (where the PS (power supply) is located.

Those PS operate at high frequency and can sometimes make such noise if the coils potting is in suficient.

    Thanks

    Torgeir

    Hei der.

Do you also have this whine after printing?

Most printers release the power to the steppers after a completed print. Hmm, but not sure if the S5 do this..

Anyway, it's a good thing to contact the reseller.

    Good luck.

    Torgeir.

I also have the same problem with my S3. Also the Hotend and they light up blue as well. I called service, the tech said it's the internal fans, I verified they are not running, another remark was "if it's working, it's alright". Can't stand the height pitched noise!  I'm going to call them again to resolve this issue.

P.S. I check the two units at work and they don't have this issue....

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
