Posted · Frame lighting on only when printing

Something I really like about Ultimaker printers is the frame lighting, they help to see what's printing very well. But I don't need it to be on all the time. That is why I like that on printers such as UM3 and S5 there is an option to have the frame light on only while printing. However, this is no option at the UM2+ connect. It can only be set on and off continuously and it cannot even be toggled during printing (no options in GUI during printing). This results in me being unable to switch on the frame light if I didn't do so before starting a print.

1. Can there be an option to have the UM2+Connect frame lighting on only while printing?

2. While we're at it, I know through the API that the LEDs are RGB and can be set to a different color and intensity in this API. It would be great if this is also possible in for example the digital factory.

I agree that the frame lightning option is something I miss too on my UM2+Connect. But I think it will come with a firmware update in the future. Currently there is some options and functions missing, which will also (hopefully) come later.

For the second wish, I personally think it will not be implemented, but who knows 🙂

We have planned more detailed control of the frame lights in a future firmware update.

About the color control, only the early UM3 models have RGB LEDs, later printer models have white only. The UM2+C lacks the whole API interface.

@svdavid42 This feature request is high on the list, but not near the top. We are working hard on a new release for the UM2+C with some nice improvements, but don't expect this feature within the next 6 months.
