New top/bottom pattern - Hilbert Curve

After trying PrusaSlicer for a while, i'm moving back to cura. I just prefer it over PS. But if there's one thing i loved while tinkering with prusaslicer is this awesome top/bottom patternt it has. It's called "Hilbert Curve". Looks like the image below. This is a mesmerizing thing to watch getting get laid down, and the final result is just as mesmerizing. Any chance this can get added?

In Cura by ultimaker I don't know, But in Cura in my opinion there is about 100% chance as it already exists.

So am i asking this in the wrong place? I don't think so, cause i grabbed Cura from the main ultimaker.com site. Is there any way this can get added to the UM Cura?

No, you are asking it in the right place.

Anyhow; We haven't looked at porting the hilbert curve over to our version of Cura. If someone feels like it, we would more than welcome a Pull request that does that. It would greatly improve the chances of it ending up in a future version of Cura!

Feature requests are always okay, but the more work it takes, the less likely it is that we will actually have the time to do it. Making this PR would require a fair amount of technical skill and I expect that it would also take a few hours to port things as well.

Its a few years down the line & have just seen this thread after also loving the hilbert curve in SS but I have gotten so familiar with Cura that I would prefer not to change over, BUT Hilbert Curve 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Closest thing I can think of in Cura: use the Concentric pattern and turn on Connect Top/Bottom Polygons:

At least it all gets printed as one continuous line 🙂

Why not add the Hilbert curve? There have been many requests and the result it produces really diffracts the light so well that the surface finish is superb to the eye. I understand it takes time to add features to software, but surely a surface finish that significant deserves the effort, especially from Cura given its status in the market.

It's not a matter of effort, it's a matter of time. There are only so many Cura developers (some of them are volunteers, since Cura is open source), and like most of us they also need to sleep, eat, and have some time off. There's always a bag of bugs to fix (AFAIK they still haven't figured out what causes random slicing failures) and there are a whole lot of features equally as deserving (not all of those are equal, but there's a lot of good ones sitting in the pile) to be in Cura as the Hilbert curve, not to mention that the developers at UltiMaker sometimes need to devote a fair chunk of time to making sure all the latest UltiMaker products are supported with all their whiz bang features.

 

Some really big features have actually come from the community, not UltiMaker. If you can contribute, I'm sure they'd love the help. But there's only so much you can do when the number of man-hours going into development is finite.
