Remove dividers in Material-Station

Posted · Remove dividers in Material-Station

Hello,

we're trying to work with 3DJakes ecoPLA, however the 1kg spools are slightly to big and dont fit into the spool slot of the Material-Station without bending the divider. Is there a way to remove the thin dividers on the bottom of the spool tray? There's a gap between them and the base, indicating that they might be seperate parts.

Thanks in advance

dont do that.. they are critical to the function of the material station.
The side fins have your spool detection
and the bottom trays have additional parts of the feeder systems attached to them.

If non-Ultimaker brand materials are being used (i.e. no NFC chip), do these dividers serve any function?

prevent spools rubbing.. and also keep the spools on the rolling wheels.. if they dont fully  stay on the rollers or are rubbing together they wont re-spool correctly..

removing dividers only will increase issues with the material station.. its not as simple as "this is in the way can i move it out of the way"

I would recommend you print yourself a spool winder, I can recommend this one from thingiverse as I use it myself regularly: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3918099

There is also an attachment to use a drill for even faster respooling. With this setup it takes less than a minute to respool filament onto a spool that fits into the material station.

From what I’ve seen inside the MS I would not try to remove the dividers. If I’m right (haven’t investigated that exact thing tho) it seemed like the sensors inside the dividers are connected via thin flex cables that can easily be damaged if they aren’t disconnected and carefully removed. Also I’d suspect the MS throws an error with the sensor disconnected (like the base S5 if you don’t connect the NFC module).
Additionally by just removing the divider you most likely won’t gain enough space anyways. So I’d say respooling the material would be the best option.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
