Posted · Revert back to Network Printing from Cloud Printing

Hello Community,

With the recent firmware update, my network printer became a cloud printer.

My printer is right next to me, and I don't have global users sending prints via the cloud, neither do I.

Moreover, the live webcam functionality in Cura is lost as cloud printers can only be monitored in the browser. The browser only shows periodically updated static images, not a live feed.

This is a very redundant and inconvenient update.

Is there a way to revert back to a network printer?

Thank you in advance!

Best,

Praddy

Just disable your printer's firewall.

    Same for me.

I updated the printers in our company from 7.x.x to 8.2.0.

Printers worked fine as a (LAN) group before the update and my colleagues could benefit from the shared queue.

Also it was easily visible, which printer is in use and how are the different printers configured (print core, material, etc.).

After the update, all is gone.

Now every engineer has to check each printer's webpage to check configuration and availability (e.g. to find out how long may it be blocked by another user).

That 8.2.0.0 "upgrade" comes with a massive feature "downgrade".

Same for me. I want to see the live  webcam on Cura. Why did they turn off this feature? Any way to revert back? Or there must be an option to choose  network printer or  cloud printer.

There are ways to downgrade, absolutely.  2 ways I believe.  I'm not sure exactly when they took this feature out so step 1 is to read the release notes to find the needed version because I'm pretty sure it's in the release notes somewhere so I'd start reading them for version 8.2 for S5 printer and then move backwards.  I don't remember if they mentioned the camera specifically, but I remember mention of removing some features from the network access.

The UM3 and the S5/S3 use 95% and in some versions 100% of the same code but are compiled differently I believe.  And the versions are not in lock step for some reason.  So the discussion above about it changing somewhere between version 7.X and 8.2 are probably for the S5 and so once you find where that switches over, pay attention to the date and then look at the UM3 release notes for the same date range.

Okay so I looked myself here: https://support.makerbot.com/s/article/1667410781982 and lots of stuff were removed in 8.1 so I suspect you are fine with any version 7.* for S5.  So feature was there (I believe) 9/16/2022 and removed in jan or feb of 2023.

Looking at UM3 release notes here: https://support.makerbot.com/s/article/1667410775027, it seems they added the camera in digital factory in 5.2.17 so I'm sure it was still working in non-DF in version 5.2.16.

One way to downgrade is to get that pair of files where one file is the checksum.  Put them both on a USB flash drive, insert it and then you can install that in the maintenance menu.

The other way is to do a "firmware recovery".  It looks like you have a UM3 which is easier to work with than the S5R1.  Which is good. https://support.makerbot.com/s/article/1877624822572

Next you need that firmware!  Not trivial.  You should create a support ticket.  It doesn't matter if your printer is out of warranty.  Support will still help you for printers out of warranty for free.  The warranty is only for parts.  Write a ticket asking explaining what version you have now and that you want to switch to version 5.2.16 so you can see the camera through the network and not through DF.  Ask if you can do it the USB flash drive method or if you have to do a firmware recovery and ask them for the necessary files and instructions.

Do the support ticket here: https://support.ultimaker.com/s/contactsupport

By the way I have version 4.3.2 on my UM3 and it works fine for me.  I don't use camera features.  I don't use network.  I don't use DF.  I don't use the UM3 as much as my other printers but I use the UM3 at least once per week.  It looks like have a copy of the 4.3.3 recovery firmware here but I recommend you try to get something newer.  My copy is here: gr5.org/unbricking

downgrading from 8.x family is more and more -not- recommended.
Its possible.. but its not a clean or guaranteed process (no assurances are made that it will work or not have issues/oddness). 7.x is quite old at this point and not considered "supported" so if you have issues related to running this version your kinda on your own.. and if you use Digital Factory your likely to have issues if not now eventually for using such a old version.

Additionally if you for example add a brand new material station to a S5 with 7.x firmware.. or replace printhead pcb on S3/S5 with this firmware.. there is zero guarantee they will work, there was a number of changes (listed in release notes) that there was updates made to the firmware to account for actual component changes on the PCB due to supply chain stresses during Covid's chip shortages.

He has an UM3 so he doesn't have a material station.
